James' Computer Fund

I rely on having a working computer to survive, but my living situation makes getting access to anything that's not used, refurbished and outright out-dated nearly impossible. I work as much as possible without risking medical harm to myself and rely on my ability to do freelance programming to supplement my income to get by.

Unfortunately my low income means that I'm in a constant state of using a computer that's on its way out the door, or too under-powered to do the work. My most recent laptop has a vast number of issues dating back to before I even got my hands on it, most likely from being overheated to a dramatic degree. It's not repairable without basically buying a new laptop, and the most recent issue has the lid hinges separating from the lid so now I'm stuck using the laptop on my coffee table with the lid propped up against some boxes. This is very uncomfortable, as I have to sit on the floor to see the screen.

I'm fairly confident the laptop is nearing a stage of hardware failure that can't be recovered from and losing it before I have something to replace it with would mean not being able to replace it as I would be losing my only source of extra income.

I'm not usually the type to ask for money, in fact, I'm the type to give more than I should when I'm able (and unfortunately a few times when I'm not), and I'd much rather work for what I get but I don't think I have the time left to save up the money needed to get my head above water.

I'd really like to build myself a decent desktop that won't need any work for some years, so I don't have to stress about a replacement again for a long time, but I'd be happy with something as little as getting a monitor for this laptop so I can use it more comfortably until it meets its hardware death.
