Sailing dream of a lifetime - Yngling World Sailing Champoinships 2016

To compete / sail with the best in the world has been a dream for JD since childhood. This dream almost ended when JD suffered a major heart attack that almost took his life in his early 40s. There were many years of “hanging on” until a successful transplant surgery was performed. Through all of this JD maintained his positive outlook and continued to help others whenever possible. He also found ways to work to help keep the family afloat. He returned to sailing competition in 2014, decades after this life altering event. Of course this experience consumed most of the family financial resources, thus the reason for this request.
We are a crew of three sailboat racers that sail with the Minnetonka Yacht Club (MYC) in Minnesota. The team consists of JD and Julie MacRae, and Greg Holde. This year we have qualified to represent the United States and MYC in the World Sailing Championships in St. Gilgen, Austria (near Salzburg), in July of 2016. We sail a former Olympic class boat called an Yngling (pronounced ing-ling). We humbly request your financial support for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
The World Championship regatta consists of a week of racing, multiple races per day, the lowest combined score places first. We will arrive one week early to practice on Lake Wolfgangsee. Sailing is a passion for all of us, we are dedicated, hard working competitors. Our combined sailing experience totals over 75 years of competition. We have all dreamt of racing at the highest levels.
We are doing everything we can to minimize the costs related to this trip, using mileage program credits to cover the airfare and chartering a boat in Austria rather than ship our own. We found accommodations with kitchenettes so that we can cook rather than eat out. Even with these considerations we will need additional funds to be able to attend this event. Our target is $10,000.
We are excited to represent our club and country and with your help we will be the best we can be at the world championships.
