A Time of Need

Donation protected
Sometimes people find themselves in situations that seem hopeless. Sometimes they find themselves in a very strong time of need. This is my dad, Bill Astafan. My dad has been dealt a really hard hand in his life. First, he was diagnosed at age 19 with juvenile onset Diabetes (Type 1). Although it’s been rough for him at times, he has been able to live a productive life despite these difficult odds. He has been able to live with Diabetes instead of Diabetes controlling him. Recently though his life has changed yet again. Last November he fell ill and went to a minute clinic. They ran tests including flu and strep swabs and all came back negative. He was then told he had a virus that just needed to run it’s course and was treated symptomatically. Flash forward 4-5 months later, and he was diagnosed with heart failure. Complete heart failure both left and right side brought in by viral cardiomyopathy. He’s been through many heart tests and even underwent a cath test. The results showed the virus he had back in November had attacked his heart within the 6 month time frame. They labeled this virus, viral cardiomyopathy. While he’s been in the hospital this time, the drs decided a plan of action to help him. He will have a loop recorder placed tomorrow, as well as a Cardiomems device. The loop will continuously monitor for arrhythmias that could harm his heart and would give the dr's an accurate recording of the findings so medication can be adjusted or added. The Cardiomems device is placed in his pulmonary artery and would measure pressures in his heart and lungs to help predict a fluid shift that could cause his lungs to fill up again with fluid. He is strong and proud and would not even know how to ask for help. He’s got a long road ahead and is in a very difficult situation. Not only is he facing insurmountable difficulties with piling medical bills, cost of medications, treatments and missed work, but sadly he’s lost his home in the midst of it all. He is currently in the hospital and will basically have no where to go when he’s discharged. Because my parents are divorced, this obstacle is something I’m trying to help him overcome. I know all things are possible through Christ who strengthens us, therefore if you could help me help him get back on his feet so he can focus on healing that would be so helpful. We are a family and I refuse to turn my back on him. He’s been through a lot and he just needs a helping hand right now so he can fight this illness. It does not discriminate. He refuses to go down without a fight...and I want to help him. Anything you could give would be immensely appreciated, whether it be prayers or a financial donation. May you all be blessed.

Thank you in advance!
