My Doberman Risked Her Life For Me

Donation protected
I'm traumatized, sleep deprived and worried beyond the point of making this. It's hard to even right this without crying. I'm going to describe what happened briefly and then take what I have written as she was attacked and bitten by a Rattlesnake that struck at me.

My dog saved my life and now she needs my help. She is currently hospitalized and came in to the emergency vet around Midnight on the verge of death.

I pull dogs from high kill shelters and work with them. Sometimes spending a year getting the dog to be safe, happy and back to being socialized and a joy to be around. These are usually highly human aggressive dogs,  dog aggressive dogs, hyperactive with no direction or ill dogs that were otherwise discarded when no one wanted to/or could pay for their medical treatment amd would otherwise have been eenuthized.

I take the dogs from my local shelter that are the Do Not Adopt list. They are the ones that have NO option of being adopted out and are guranteed to be killed within a weeks time.

I have successfully taken many that would have otherwise been killed (sometimes pulling them just hours before their scheduled death) and found them loving families after (typically) months of working with them.

Doing this is highly costly, but entirely worth it. Especially in medical cases. It is also highly dangerous.

In a sense, my own dogs are sometimes put in the position of needing your help, so I can continue to save dogs that would otherwise died. For no other reason than no one wanted to put the time, effort and money into it.

My Doberman-- Sugar Tree needs your help. She was bitten by a rattlesnake. Right now she is still hospitalized. She was going to die as far as the emergency vet saw it. This happened late Sunday night (July 9th) and she has still not recovered enough to come home.

She's 9 years old and means everything to me. This is not the first time she has put her life on the line to save mine. Even from minor injuries or threats that may not have ben all that serious. She deserves to get the best treatment possible and with all my expenses-- I have no idea how I can pay for her treatment. But I told the vet to do EVERYTHING they can.

She is taking an unusually long time for a dog to recover from a bite and I am very concerned. It is now July 11th and I have good hopes that she is going to pull through, but if there is anything you can do to help fiancially or just send well wishes. We both could really use it.

She has had a hard year.

It was not too long ago that she was attacked and mauled to near death by a dog while we were on a trip together. Laying in a bloody heap dying in a parking lot by an owner who let their dog off the leash-- either intentionally or by accident.

Either way he did nothing. I jumped ontop of the dog who had Sugar Tree on the ground, but this did nothing to release the dog's bite on her throat. I had to push my arm down the attacking dog's mouth and choke it and pull back to get him to release his bite on Sugar. I yanked the dog back and tied him to handicapp post on the sidewalk.

He was uninjured and Sugar Tree was dying. I just lef thim there and ran to the nearest vet in a town I did not know. I got there in time for the vet to save her life, but it has been a long road of recovery.

She was just now feeling more like herself from the physical and emotional trauma.

I just feel so bad for her.

If there is anything you can do to help, please do. If you cannot help with donating, please pass this along.

I will add more information and details as I get them.

I am just so sad. I do think now she will recover according to her last blood panel (at 1am last night). But will she ever really? She is old and it will take a toll on her. I want to give her the best of everything and I want her to live many more years.

She is the best thing I've ever had in my life and I can't imagine life without her.

I'm going to go visit her in the hospital now, but I wanted to put this up. I have been so concerned about the money. Especially after taking in two new rescues I am working with now. A feral Pit Bull from Mexico that was left starving to death and I am also working with an American Bulldog (mix?) that was on the kill list at the shelter.

I am overwhelmed for other reasons, too which I may get into.

Sugar Tree has been with me for all her 9 years and I guess I could not make it through this without crying. I just love her so much.

That is all I will say for now. More information to come. Thank you for your help.  Positive thoughts are appreciated. Anything is.

Love you, Sugar Tree. Everything is going to be okay.
