My Paramedic School

Donation protected
I have always been a caring person. I grew up always trying to take care of people whether it was my younger brother when he broke his arm, my mother when she was battling breast cancer (which she beat), or my grandfather with throat cancer (who was not so lucky).

I decided early on in life that I wanted to devote my life to the service of others. That is why I joined the Boy Scouts of America and achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout and volunteered in high school with an organization that helped handicapt persons through equine therapy. This is also why I decided to persue a career in healthcare.

I made the decision to help people through medicine, but I didnt know exactly what I wanted to do. I knew that ultimately I wanted to become a doctor, but I knew that my family couldn't afford to put me through school. So to figure out if I even liked medice I looked for a less expensive alternative.

My local community college offered a six month Emergency Medical Technician - Basic course ( this is the lowest leve medical professional you have to be to work on an ambulance ). After the first day, I fell in love. I knew that medicine was my calling and nothing would stop me from becoming the best medical professional I can be.

Once I passed my EMT-Basic courses, with straight A's, I applied for the paramedic program at the same college. Four weeks before classes started I was informed that we had lost our instructor and paramedic classes would be cancelled indefinitely, until they were able to find a qualified instructor. So in the mean time I worked as an EMT at a local ambulance service, continually trying to learn as much as I could and applying to other paramedic programs across the state.

I was eventually accepted in to one of the most prestegious paramedic programs at Austin Community College. Austin Community College's paramedic program is so highly thought of in the medical community, especially in central Texas, that some medical schools will allow you to skip the first 1-2 years if you recieved you paramedic certificate and associates degree through ACC.

This was my dream come true!

I am currently in my second semester of the five semester program and it is more expensive than I was anticipating. Tuition for ACC is about $1,500 a semester. Books, spplies, and uniform in total cost on average $300 a semester. Travel for clinical shifts and training is around $200 a month. I need the money as soon as possible to help with costs of current and upcoming semesters.

I am asking for this money not as a donation, but an investment in to your community and healthcare system. I plan on using any and all money I recieve soley for the purpose of enhancing my education and moving towards my dream of becoming a doctor.

Thank you,
Austin
