May 2014 PDT Afghanistan, I suffered two ruptured discs in my back, corrective measures had to take place.
Whilst in a German hospital the procedure went wrong leaving me bleed spinal fluid for 6 days resulting in 6th nerve palsy, severe headaches and migraine seizures. On the sixth night a desperate measure was performed which saved my life but ended the army career on the spot which meant the world to me.
A year of depression set in, watching my mates go and do the job I loved the feeling of being left behind was at times a real struggle which left me in a very dark place, until the invictus games was mentioned to me.
Doctors had told me with the issues I had and for the rest of my life be on medication I will never run or cycle again with the pain I would have to endure but, I had a new focus.
The games has brought a new target in my life not just the doom and gloom of what I had been through.
These last couple of years I have been training very hard to overcome the pain and bring myself to a standard that I can compete competitively but without such a supportive network, my family, Help for Heroes this wouldn't be possible. Attending the camps just being back with like minded people has really helped my recovery.
I am raising money to help with training and race costs to improve my chance of coming home with a medal or two....
•aero helmet
•Cycle carrying box’s to safety transport the bikes to Sydney
•Power meter
•Athletic equipment.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
