Avery's Journey with Brachycephaly

Avery was recently diagnosed with Plagiocephaly and more accurately Brachecephaly. "Flat head syndrome" Avery decided to make his grand entrance during the Royal's game 1 of the ALCS. Which was absolutely wonderful, but it was early. By about a month! Because he was born premature, his skull is a little softer than other babies. Avery has seen a pediatric plastic surgeon at Children's Mercy Hospital that has recommended a special cranial helmet or "pediatric prosthetic" for Avery to help his skull grow back into the correct shape, as well as physical therapy to correct his torticollis. (Tight neck, head tilt) Unfortunately, most insurance companies do not cover them and they are around $2600! We will be taking him to the Hangar clinic to get fitted for the helmet on April 11th. Without the helmet, the prognosis is a misshapen skull that will not regain shape as he gets older. We are hoping to be able to provide this for him so that he can grow into a happy healthy child. We are so blessed to have him and his two older brothers! Thank you all!

The helmet photo is just an example of what the helmet would look like. The helmet is very lightweight and he would be wearing it 23 hours a day for the next 3-6 months.
