Musket's TPLO Surgery

Musket is a 4 year old dog who we rescued from the Blood Reserve in southern Alberta. When she was rescued she was wandering the streets of Cardston emaciated. We nursed her back to health and have provided her a loving home with four young boys to grow up with. She has been a healing blessing to our family as we got her just a few months after our family went through a life changing house fire. The joy and comfort she continues to bring to our family on a daily basis is priceless.
Recently Musket “blew out” or ruptured her ACL tendons in her rear right leg.
So far we have spent $1400 on diagnosis of her injuries and are paying $80 a week on pain management. The surgery that is recommended is an additional $5000. There will be recovery costs as well, though we don't know how much they may come to. The surgery is called TPLO, or tibial-plateau-leveling osteotomy. It is a surgery performed on dogs to stabilize the stifle joint after ruptures of the cranial cruciate ligament (analogous to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
Options we have explored as alternatives to the $5000 surgery have included the following;
alternate $3500 - $4000 surgery TTA which works better on smaller dogs - not recommended by the vet as musket is a large dog (110.lb great dane mut) and will most likely break the materials used in the surgery in the first 6-12 months. Resulting in an almost unfixable knee
Pain management and doing nothing $360 a month about $80 a week. Currently we are in a holding pattern here. However do to financial difficulties this is not a long term solution.
Euthanasia- besides a bum knee Musket is a happy playful young dog. This doesn’t seem right for the situation.
Asking for help - thats where we are at now. Appealing to your kind hearted generosity to please help us.
Surrendering her to the S.P.C.A. - We would really love to keep her with us. Besides some financial issues right now, we are a good home. I’m not sure the S.P.C.A. could find one person willing to fix her leg. We really don’t want her put down.
