West Michigan Arts Community

Donation protected
OUR GOAL:

Our goal is to provide West Michigan, Muskegon in particular, with a happening cultural refuge through the Muskegon Center for the Arts, an LLC business entity created several years ago by father and son, Ron and Michael Schaasfma. The dream:  Having dedicated members & supporters that believe in creating a space for artists  to create, display, perform and explore their art form;  one where community is the key to inspiration and success, and a synergy is born, making exposure and marketing simple and affordable.

WHERE WE ARE LOCATED:

All original artwork of our  Muskegon Center for the Arts artist members is displayed in the Red Lotus Gallery (our home base) on the lower level of the historic Century Club building at 356 W. Western Ave., in downtown Muskegon. New work is displayed monthly and opening receptions are held the first Friday of each month from  6pm-8pm in the gallery.

WHAT WE OFFER:
– Original fine art & gifts
– Creative workshops
– Open Mic ~ Adult audience poetry, singing, music, skits, etc., every 3rd Saturday from 7pm-9pm
– Creative Saturday ~ Ages 12 (with adult) & up, can exchange ideas, inspiration and comaraderie while working on projects during the last Saturday of each month from 10am-1pm
– Opportunities for members / non-members to hold their own special events.

WHY FUND US:

As Muskegon makes strides in building itself back up again we are  trying to promote the talent of our local artists, along with encouraging the public, as well as other local artists to participate in our events and be more involved in a strong arts community. We have some amazing artists whose work we hope to give more promotion and sales. Your contribution will help this arts community remain viable. We are seeking funding to-

1.  Promote awareness of area artists and culture.

2.  Reorganize and change status to non-profit.

3.  Continue to service the community by connecting old and young with different forms of art.

4.    Continue events supporting the community, such as environmental concerns ( Muskegon Lake Watershed Partnership), social issues, educational events, and partnerships with other area businesses as we help Muskegon grow.
