Saul Rayo is a well known musician in Nevada City, CA alongside his beautiful wife Elena Rayo. 8 months ago Saul started to have health problems concerning his colon, he was trying to treat the imbalances on his own but the symptoms kept progressing.  Last week he went to the hospital and had a colonoscopy, he was diagnosed with a mass called an apple core rectal tumor, which came back as cancer.  Saul has been one of the main supporters of the Nevada County music scene for 25 years. He has organized and performed in countless benefits, including benefits for fire victims, homeless shelters, friends in need with health issues, for SYRCL, KVMR, Sierra Harvest, and many other local organizations. He has performed literally thousands of shows both locally and internationally and has always donated at least a portion of the proceeds. Now he is needing some assistance for himself and is most grateful for your support.

The recommended treatment  for this kind of tumor is surgery or radiation if they think the tumor is too large. His treatments will be starting immediately if he decides the surgical route. In the mean time Saul and his wife are considering going to India to a Ayurvedic Hospital where he will do a Panchakarma (a 5 step purifying process). He is planning to leave in May for treatment or earlier if possible.

All donations will go directly to Saul and Elena for cost of treatments. The treatment center Saul is considering does not accept medical insurance. A big portion of the donations will go toward their flights to India and his stay at the hospital, which can be anywhere from 1-3 months depending on the treatment plan they propose to him.  All other funds will go to living expenses, as Saul will not be able to work until he regains his strength and health, which will result in no income at this time.

Other ways you can help:
* Do you have airline miles to offer for flight to India?
* Donating gift cards for food
* Emotional support
*Offering to help out on their land with daily task.

Dear friends,
Wow! What an evening it was last Friday for the fundraiser! We want to thank everyone who helped in any way ... there are so many of you, and be sure we'll thank you as we see each of you around town. From the incredible music to the biggest silent aunction in NC in years, it was definitely one of the biggest "Love-Fests" we've ever attended! We love you guys!
Saul says, "Thank you all for supporting me in treating and healing the cancer in the way that feels right for me. I feel like we're doing this for all of us, to reclaim our power over our own health and at the same time supporting our community!"
So it's been 6 weeks now since diagnosis. We believe that due to recent blood testing and imaging that the tumor (which started at 5 cm all the way around) has now shrunk to less than half its size!
Saul is continuing his protocols of building up his immune system, and also going after the tumor itself. It's a holistic approach: mind, body, spirit, emotions. We're using a combination of ketogenic diet, herbs, supplements, IV therapy, meditation, Qigong, acupuncture, Ayurveda, and massage.
We'll be sharing more about the details of the protocols in a general outline at the next benefit concert, held June 9 at 2 pm at Tom Dalldorf's Besemer Concert Hall up Red Dog Rd in Nevada City. Thanks Tom! Thanks also to Petty Luv acoustic, and Juliet Gobert and Homer Wills, who will also be performing their fabulous acoustic tunes along with The Rayos doing a short set!
Up ahead: we'll be streamlining some of our therapies as we head into phase two -- a bit of the longer haul.
Please feel free to share this post so that we can continue to grow the network.
We're so happy to hear that members of our healing team are already getting referrals for their work!
We'll also be posting some new Rayos songs to share with you, that have been inspiring to us on our journey.
Thanks all new supporters! We'll do our part for sure!
love,
Saul and Elena

Hello brothers and sisters,
This week, though there were a few days of feeling a bit rough (natural due to all the detox herbs and protocols) finds me feeling even better than a week ago! The tumor is shrinking!!

Although we were denied a referral to oncology at UCSF (Anthem Blue Cross Medi-Cal said they would not refer out of the medical group area -- even though also there's no Nevada County oncology service that will take this insurance) we won't give up on trying to get there eventually.

here's a song we remastered for THE RAYOS. it's really helped to listen to it:

This week I did get my blood labs back and the oncologist we did get referred to in Folsom said they look pretty good! Just a little low hemoglobin and red blood cell which is normal for cancer in the colon.
In the meantime, we added a new member of our team this week -- Dr Virginia Osborne ND. She lives and works in a beautiful space 15 minutes away in Chicago Park. She's an expert in integrative cancer IV therapies which will help to boost my immune system. She even trains MDs around the globe in these therapies. How awesome she is in our backyard! We had an initial meeting with her and she said we're doing everything right so far and she has a very good feeling about my prognosis. I start the therapies tomorrow. Expensive, but with your help will will make it happen. THANK YOU!!!!
Speaking of thank yous, there's an amazing event which I hope many of you can attend this FRIDAY MAY 24 at 7 pm at the Miner's Foundry in Nevada City. A stellar line up of some of Nevada County's most awesome musical acts: Achilles Wheel, Petty Luv, Objects in the Mirror, Lolo Gervais, and Bob Woods Trio. The Rayos will guest on a few songs too!! Not only are all these wonderful musicians donating their time and talent, but there's a phenomenal backstage crew that made all this happen : John Taber, Mark McCartney, Peter Wilson, Gretchen Hummel Bond, Robin Karlstedt, Kat Kress, Rich Mead, Greg Cameron, Mark Jacoby, Patti Smith, Pinky Zalkin, Kathy Dotson, George Holden, and there's even more with volunteers. We love you guys SO much!
We're even looking ahead as to how our challenges and education can benefit others with health issues. We'll be introducing our health team at the event-- and know that we have your back as you have ours. This community rocks!
love,
Saul and Elena xoxo

Good morning dear friend!
It’s been a week since the last update and I’ve just finished my Panchakarma treatment with Kim Kinjo assisted by Nitya. Very lovely healing experience with lots of deep meditation and visualization to break up the tumor.
I did get some blood work done and will speak with the oncologist to find out the results.
In the meantime I’m sticking with my protocol of the Keto diet, Ayurvedic and TCM anti-tumor herbs, and tons of pro-immune system supplements.
This week I’m stepping up the acupuncture with Debra Buddie, the AmpCoil with Emma Fisher-Smith, and I guess Heidi Zimmerman’s Bemer machine.
I have to say I’m doing good! I have more energy than a week ago and am bugging Elena with all my plans for the future especially around music!
Thanks again to all those helping us! I will vindicate and be worthy by healing this thing!!
Love Saul and Elena
