Music After School Programs

Music Over Miles was founded in 2016 by a patron of the arts, Music Over Miles is an Illinois based 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization which provides single day programs and weeklong after school workshops for youth aged 11 -18. In 2017, its inaugural year, the program impacted nearly 2000 children across the country with wonderful feedback and testimonials. Funding is now being sought from individual and corporate donors to support the 2018-2019 programs, centered primarily in the Midwest, especially development of the After school Workshops and a Singing Competition to be held in the last half of 2018.
How Does the Program Benefit Students in My Area?
• Nurtures creativity through music and provides a healthy outlet for expressing emotion through songwriting and composition
• Provides group interaction, dialogue, and coaching with a touring professional musician and other performance arts industry experts
• Builds self-confidence and a healthy self-esteem through group participation - playing an instrument is not required
• Single and multi-week programs may be offered as well as single experiential days focusing on songwriting, performance and understanding aspects of the music industry and careers in music.
Program Details:
• Programs are conducted Monday – Thursday during after school hours for a minimum of 1 week to multi-weeks based on school input and student availability.
• Programs are targeted to youth 11 – 18 years old
• Programs accommodate approximately 20 students up to a maximum of 40 students per group. All programs based on funding availability.
Curriculum includes:
• Introduction to various careers in the music industry
• Understanding the basics of songwriting and co-writing
• Having fun with music
• Blending melodies and syllables
• What is commercialization of music?
• Understanding rhythms, rhyming, and cadence
• Navigating the business side of music
*Curricula will be modified and flexible based on individual profiles of students and schools being served.
