On May 7, 2018, the Lakeland City Commission voted to relocate the Munn Park Confederate Monument to Veterans Memorial Park using private funding. We invite you to be a part of this process by donating toward relocation costs.

The City of Lakeland has a quote from Energy Services and Products Corporation , who recently moved a similar monument for Hillsborough County. This company performed all the work required to remove the monument from its original sight, transport it and reassemble it for one cost and move it to Veterans Memorial Park.  Energy Services and Products Corporation submitted a quote of $150,000 for removal, bringing the estimated total project costs up to $225,000.

The seven-member City Commission voted to move the 26-foot tall statue and column to Veterans Memorial Park, which has several monuments dedicated to Polk County veterans.

Mayor Mutz & Commissioner Franklin

I hope that the people who really want to celebrate the love and unity of our community tangibly, that they would help to support the effort financially. —Mayor William "Bill" Mutz

...My hope is that, given the context of Veterans Park, relocating the Confederate monument there will send a strong signal to Lakelanders, present and future, that we are simply honoring and remembering our war dead. Nothing more, nothing less.  —Commissioner Scott Franklin
