Mumford Wrestling's 2018-19 season

Donation protected
Please help support the Mumford High School Wrestling team’s 2018-19 season. The Mumford Wrestling team is hoping to make its fifth season as a program its best yet and we need your support. The Mumford Wrestling Mustangs continue to be the first and only wrestling team in Detroit Public Schools Community District, the state’s largest school district. We are proud of this, but it means all of our expenses are funded through the generosity of donors rather than the school or district. Any support you can give us is greatly appreciated and will go a long way in continuing to grow our program.

It may not be the easiest thing in the world to raise money every year, but it does give us the opportunity to connect with fans and supporters in a real way. When donating to large organizations it can feel like your money is a drop in the bucket. Rest assured that every little bit makes a huge difference in our grassroots operation. Just take a look at what your money has helped us do already, and what it will continue to do:

If you gave us $100 last year, that helped pay the entry fee for one of the six varsity and three novice tournaments our wrestlers competed in last year. Most tournaments cost around $200 to enter. We are scheduled to compete in six varsity and three novice tournaments again this year, plus postseason tournaments.

If you gave us $70 you helped buy one of the four, two-piece uniform sets (compression shorts and compression tops). The two-piece uniforms are extremely popular with beginning wrestlers. Wrestlers want to wear them—as opposed to the traditional singlet, which many beginners are apprehensive to wear. We plan to purchase up to 10 more sets this year.

If you gave us $50 you helped buy one of the 52 wall pads that transformed a classroom into a state-of-the-art wrestling room. Our wrestlers now have a place to call their own and can practice without fear of running into concrete walls. This year we plan to install pull up bars in the room and decorate in a way to honor past wrestlers and inspire future wrestlers.

If you gave us $30 you helped buy team shirts and shorts. This year we’re purchasing set of team sweat suits that wrestlers will get to keep.

If you gave $20, you helped buy new headgear for our wrestlers. Several of our older pieces will need to be replaced this year.

If you gave $10, you helped buy bagels, fruit, sandwich ingredients and other food to fuel our wrestlers at weekend tournaments. Rarely do our wrestlers come to tournaments with food or extra money for food. We plan to once again be the primary provider of meals for more than 20 hungry teenagers every Saturday of the season.

If you gave $5, you helped buy Gatorades for those wrestlers after a long day of competition. They’ll be thirsty again this year.

If you only have $1 to spare, that dollar might be what buys a kid’s bus fare to practice and we have plenty whose only way to get to and from school, practice, and tournaments is a city bus.

Every little bit counts, so please help us make a huge difference. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
