Who are the campaign beneficiaries?
My name is David Farina and I am Planetarium Director and a high school science teacher. Over the past 10 years I have worked with a student-run astronomy club . This astronomy club and the high school astronomy classes I teach have become extremely advanced and we are quickly outgrowing our current astronomy equipment. With your donation, I will be able to expand our ability to conduct public outreach through star watches for elementary and middle school students and the public while providing club members and students a strong foundation for our goal of astrophotography and spectroscopy.
What do these funds go towards?
The funds will be used towards the purchase of the towards the creation of the dream of one day having a permanent observatory that students can use in person as well as remotely.
What are we doing?
My students have been hard at work fundraising through our student-run planetarium show fundraiser events, reaching out to local businesses, and the sale of various astronomical gear and in-person donations to the club. My students plan to continue to push forward in their fundraising efforts through these methods. I want to surprise them with a big donation from this gofundme campaign to supplement their goal with your generous donations. I hope that we will see you around at one of our upcoming monthly star watches or our quarterly planetarium shows.
In order to maintain our timeline for this project, we hope to get the necessary funds for the project within the next calendar year. This would allow the current group of highly motivated high school students the chance to realize their this goal before they graduate. Their efforts over the past 3-4 years as club members would be rewarded with a legacy that they could come back to visit for decades to come as alumni.
This means a lot to me as advisor of this hard-working group of students. My main goal is to provide high-quality outreach to our community while providing our student membership an unparalleled high school experience that will ignite a lifetime of learning and love of STEM. With your contributions, I will be able to provide these students with an out of this world experience.
