Send Nelson from Malawi to Uni
Donation protected
In 2012, I went to Malawi on a mission trip to the village of Kamwe (picture below). There, we received a wonderful welcome by a warm community! We met many great people, and among them, we met an amazing young man called Nelson Band. He was bright and so clever… I managed to keep in touch with him when I went back to Dublin, and moved back to France (I am French - my name is Camille. That’s me in the picture with the kids.)
My friend Nelson finished secondary school three years ago and applied to uni a couple of times. He was recently selected to be educated and to study Food Nutrition and Livelihood Security in the Natural Resources College of Malawi. (click on the link to access to the uni’s website)
This is great news!
The bad news is that coming from a poor family he can’t afford to pay the fees, like most of poeple, who then have to sale and renounce to their incomes or renounce to studying.
Studying could literally change his life and also, because food security and nutrition is such a such a crucial and burning issue in his country, it could also change life of people there by helping to stop famine and death! You can find more info about it, on this
website
I truly believe that more than Western people going over to help, Africa needs African people able to work in their own fields to create a sustainable economy. This is a great chance for us to help support this process by sending Nelson to uni so that he can start helping his country – he is more than able!
To achieve it, he needs to pay about 875€/semester, for 4 years. which is about 7000€ in total. That’s nothing for us but a lot for Nelson!
Time is short, as the deadline to pay the first semester is the 26th of February. But I believe that with generosity, we are able to achieve this challenge and that by the 26th, I will be able to send him enough money to post a photo of him in the study room of the NRC!
More than anything, I wish all these kids heading off to school in their uniforms will get the same chance to go to uni and lead their forward country.
Thanks so much in advance!
