MS GOLF PROJECT

It seemed the night before “moving day”, the Saturday of the 2016 U.S Open of Golf, would be the perfect time to introduce the world to The MS Golf Project.

Hello my name is Mitchell A Crum, for the last 30 years golf has been my work and passion. I have been fortunate to travel the world, work with some of the best PGA and LPGA golfers in the world, along with 1000’s of weekend golfers. Life seems to throw us all a curve or two. Well the curve I was thrown, was thought to be unhittable.

Five years ago I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) . MS is a disease in which the immune system eats away at the protective covering of nerves. The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation estimates that more than 400,000 people in the United States and about 2.5 million people around the world have MS. As the disease progressed I found myself not being able to stand through a complete lesson, my balance was getting worse. I experienced numbness in my hands, my weight ballooned, and worst of all, I couldn't play golf any more.

About two years ago, I stopped feeling sorry for myself and realized that perhaps this disease was a blessing from God and that instead of feeling helpless it was time to start helping others with MS feel empowered to help themselves feel healthier like I have, through golf. It’s amazing how everybody I tell I have MS, knows someone close to them with MS. The numbers of cases diagnosed seems to be rising at an alarming rate. However, it seems that this terrible disease is not being talked about in the media. Why?

That got me thinking, what would I do if I was a doctor, hairdresser, bartender, electrician, plumber, auto mechanic, construction worker or just about any other job you can think of and I couldn’t continue to do it because I have MS.

Well I got myself off the floor , lost 100 pounds by starting to eat correctly. I started thanking God for every day I'm given and for the things I can still do. I realized I could continue to teach and help people play better golf but now I realized what golf could do for people with MS.

The MS Golf Project’s mission is to use golf to raise money and awareness for MS research to find better treatments and a cure. My goal is to give affected people hope and understand that their lives are not over. It is my hope and goal to dedicate one day a year to what I call the "MS Golf Project Day". A day where all the golf clubs in America donate $5.00 out of each person’s green fees to go towards MS research.

Please help the project get started, there so much good and positive things we can do for this disease through golf.
