Hamburg Mutts for Freedom and Diamonds in the Ruff Animal Rescue Inc are teaming up to help a puppy in need.
Dustin is just 9 months old and was hit by a car last week causing an acetabular fracture. An acetabular fracture is a fracture of the pelvis. Typically in a young dog like this other bones will fracture before the pelvis. Little Dustin wasn't so fortunate. Motor vehicle trauma is the #1 reason for this type of injury. Generally, pelvic fractures cause acute, no-weight bearing lameness of the hind legs.
His owners requested euthanasia rather than treatment. The veterinarian requested that the dog be surrendered as an alternative. The idea of euthanizing such a sweet little soul, when there was a better, albeit more expensive solution could not be allowed to happen. That's where Hamburg Mutts for Freedom stepped in.
Now that Dustin's life is saved, surgical stabilization of the bone fragments is required to give him the most rapid and least painful return to function. The surgery is estimated at about $4500!
Several weeks of activity restriction will follow the surgery along with treatment of concurrent soft tissue injuries. He's got a long road to recovery. But, that recovery starts with YOU. Hamburg Mutts for Freedom is an all breed, volunteer-driven, 501(c)(3) non- profit organization founded by Natalie Pipitone Howes. We work to rescue many wonderful, loving dogs who would otherwise be forgotten and left to die in high kill shelters. Some of these dogs are local surrenders, and others are rescued from high kill compounds (not even shelters) that are not accessible to the public. There is no chance for adoption for these dogs. Their only chance is a rescue group pulling them to safety and freedom.
Diamonds in the Ruff Animal Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Niagara County, New York. Our mission is simple: to provide foster homes for companion cats and dogs in need. We are strictly volunteer-based and rely on foster homes for our animals. We believe in the sentiment of no animal left behind and do our best to work with other rescue organizations to secure loving homes for all animals in need.
