Marcus Johnson Golden Gloves Nationals

Hey all my friends and family! I will be going to my 6th national tournament, and my second National golden gloves tournament! Boxing for me has been one of the most fulfilling experiences and i have all my supporters to thank for that! I have finally reached a maturity in the sport that has allowed me to take real control of my bouts!

With my coach Andrea Nelson, teammates at Fords gym, and my community in Wisconsin i have reached the level of boxing i have dreamed about since i was a teenager. I am now a 2 time Golden Glove champion in 2 weight classes! (Middleweight 165lbs and Welterweight 152lbs) This year more than ever i have a real shot of securing a national title for Wisconsin! The road has been long but rewarding! I aim to show all the hard work i have put in on the national stage as well as helping resurrect Wisconsin Golden Gloves to one of the top places in the country in the rankings!

With the Bob Lynch Boxing Foundation overseeing the Wisconsin Golden Glove Franchise, i feel VERY confident in my team as well in securing national titles!Im very fortunate to have as many chances and experiences as i have had in amateur boxing and a lot of that the last 4 years has been due to the Bob Lynch Boxing Foundation!

With the money raised from various fundraisers and most notably our state tournament that took place march 15th and 16th, the Foundation has raised enough money to cover the cost of travel, room and board, and our eating expenses during the National tournament in Chattanooga may 4th-12th!I am very grateful that everyone pulled together in making all these things a reality! For me, it means everything especially as i get older in this “young mans” sport lol. Im not necessarily old by any means, but you could say i am for amateur boxing approaching 29 this year in May.

This is going to be one of my last runs in amateurs. I say that because i honesty don’t know how long i have lol. I ensure you, i AM going to ride this train until the wheels fall off though! Now I’m truly in my prime and don’t see an end in sight, but being realistic with being married and having someone else’s life and happiness to think about, as well as my job which has been taking all the time i don’t give to boxing, i want to be honest with my self and friends and family. You never know how much time you have! That is why i chase my dreams so hard!!!

Honestly, with this tournament taking two weekends from me, as i work Thursday through Sunday and heavily rely on my tips as a bartender to make ends meet, it is going to set me back quite a bit. I don’t want to put it all on my wife to take care of my bills, her bills, and our bills...mostly because we just cannot realistically make that happen.

My goal is not to sell a sob story or be seen as “holding my hands out”, So i am going to be very honest about what i cant take care of financially and if people would like to help support me in my dream chase, it would be GREATLY appreciated! Time and time again people have been MORE than giving and supportive of me, and for that i am so very humbled and appreciative of the past and present! I honestly have the best friends! Because of my community no matter how down i am or behind i get in my personal life, i always feel like Bruce Wayne! It all means a lot to me!

Between my rent, car payment, insurance, phone bill, and if i can make those ends meet some new running shoes (to help keep me in shape and my feet healthy) i need to try and earn $1200. I say earn because nothing is free, and i want to show through my hard work that i know that! Bringing home a National Golden Glove Title is huge to me and all the young athletes looking to our champions to see that it CAN be done!

I don’t know where i would be right now if it wasn’t for the Harmony Bar and all the great people i have met through it! The kindness and the friendships i have made are...priceless! I also want to thank Twisted Fitness and Fords gym for always treating me so well and becoming my family. They both played a HUGE role in who i am today! If you cant help me out with a few bucks, DO NOT SWEAT IT! Giving me friendship and being their for me even with something as simple as a smile goes along way in my happiness! Its very stressful going through the rigorous training and working late nights every weekend, and people being polite and just overall friendly DOES A LOT to keep me stress free!

Again, i don’t know how i would do it without you all!I appreciate everything in my life and i look forward to representing Wisconsin with the utmost integrity during this National Golden Glove tournament! I will continue to work hard, keep my self in great shape, and stay focused to make sure i SECURE that title for us all to enjoy in knowing that we all worked for it!
I may do the hard work in the gym and in my diets, but its achieved because i have the best team pushing me and never letting me settle for less!

I will bring the best Marcus Robert Johnson to the ring May 4th-12th!

Thank you and hope to see you all soon where ever life takes us!

Sincerely,
Marcus Robert Johnson
