Travellers should be able to return to their flood hit site on James Street in York tomorrow (Weds). It follows repairs to the site by the City of York council.
Ten families are still unable to join their neighbours because their caravans were destroyed and they have nowhere to live.
Back in December after the Foss and Tang HAll beck burst their banks the whole area was engulfed by dirty muddy water. Homes were runied and thousands of pounds of damage was caused. Due to the fact that part of the site is in a dip the water couldn't escape. Homes were evacuated but to add to the misery there were thefts of goods that were left behind,
Now Repair work has been completed over the last few months and many of the residents are due back in tomorrow.

The community of James Street are still scattered across Yorkshire while they wait on the extensive repairs needed to make the site habitable. Unfortunately even on completion of the repairs the majority of families have no appropriate accommodation to move into. We are working with the 2 Riding's Fund to find money to replace the caravans lost in the flood. Unfortunately as a result of delays by the Government on match funding, we are still waiting to see how much we have to help rebuild the communities homes and lives.
We will of course keep you posted.
See below for more details on the 2 ridings fund:
The community have all found temporary accommodation; but much of this is unsuitable and unsustainable.
The site is currently in the process of being industrially cleaned and repairs are under way on the site itself. However, all the vans that were involved in the flood are being disposed of as they are no longer habitable but their is no plan for how they will be replaced - the community of James Street were unable to insure their properties and neither the local council or environment agency will take responsibility.
We are in the process of developing a plan for how best we can support the community to move back to the site when it is ready. We will update everyone on how your money will be used to help rebuild the lives of the James Street community as soon as possible.
Once again a MASSIVE thank you to all our supporters!

So glad i could help
Hi everyone, Thank You so much for your donations its very kind of you all and we are very grateful to you. The money raised is going into the 2 ridings Disaster fund but been ring fenced for the James Street site community. By doing this what ever we raised is then doubled by the government as we are a registered charity. Again thank you so much, every penny counts x
