Mr. Fuzzhead was diagnosed
with a treatable but incurable cancer: small cell lymphoma, about 10 months ago. We've been treating him with oral chemotherapy, anti-nausea medicine and antacids. Along with the cancer, Fuzz also has chronic kidney disease and a heart murmur which have been kept under control as well. In the past year, I've spent about 8k or so on medical bills for Mr. Fuzzhead. He's not actually felt ill until now when his kidneys have unfortunately started to fail. His creatinine levels have tripled in the last two weeks despite receiving subcutaneous fluid to try to combat the build up of creatinine and phosphorous in his blood. Unfortunately the SubQ's, as they're called, aren't enough and the blood work that came back was dire enough for our vet to have me bring Fuzz in for an emergency IV fluid flush of his system. We are trying to lower the almost toxically high level of these two substances in his blood in the hopes that we can regain control of them again with regular subcutaneous fluids after about three days of treatment in the ICU. Getting these levels down is imperative, as levels of phosphorus this high can cause crystals to form in the kidneys and other organs, causing permanent damage. During his stay in the hospital, our veterinarian will also perform an ultrasound to double check that the cancer has not spread to his kidneys. Complicating matters further, we can't fight these levels as hard as we'd like as quickly as we'd like because of his heart murmur. Fluids and heart murmurs don't go together very well and there's a chance he could end up with complications from trying to save his life. But this is his best chance! I haven't given up on him because he hasn't given up yet. It is very difficult to ask for help, but it's come to the point that I'm afraid I have to. The low estimate for this treatment is $2700 and the high is $4200. Any donation amount, no matter if you think it is small, is appreciated.
