We thought nothing of it as we rallied up all three dogs to go to the park. While there we threw the tennis balls and the dogs chased after it and came back to us per usual.  All of a sudden Christina heard a yelp and  Sarge was grabbed up by an Akita whose owner had him on a leash. Christina grabbed the Akita and attempted to get him off of Sarge. Unfortunately, damage was already severe. We rushed him to the hospital and the doctors told us he has about a 50% survival rate. The heartbreak I feel right now is palpable. The heartbreak I feel for my brother and sister-in-law while they are not nearby is out of this world. The costs that we have already accumulated just spending five hours in the hospital is unreal and he has a long road of recovery WHEN he pulls through this. He’s one of the toughest dogs I know and I believe he will make it through the night, but my family needs all the prayers we can get. The thing that makes me so angry is while I was holding pressure on Sarge’s wounds while Christina sprinted for the car, the owner of the Akita said his dog has mauled four other dogs. Prayers that Sarge makes it through the next two days so my brother and sister-in-law can get home and see him. He’s the happiest, go luckiest, loving and cuddly dog I know. I could barely get him out of bed this morning at 10 AM because he just wanted to sleep in :-) I want to see Sarge back to his normal joyful self.

It has been a while since we posted an update about our miracle survivor dog, Sarge. The site only lets me post 3 pics, so they were hard to select. One pic at least shows you how well he is healing from the wounds, and the one in the jersey is today since the Seahawks are playing tonight ;-). He got his bandages off a few weeks ago and had to wear a cone for a while, but now he is free as a bird! He is back to his non-stop, ball chasing, energetic self (indoors for now), peering out the front window ensuring everyone who passes by knows there is a tough guardian protecting this home.

He is NOT experiencing PTSD! We have taken him back to the park on walks and he prances along like he has amnesia, saying hello to every passerby.

We remain so incredibly grateful for you and all of the financial support and encouraging words, (especially because a few months before this happened I, Sarge's mom, lost my job!) We call Sarge our $20k kid! :-0 Thanks to your support, we are continuing to be able to make our payments.
If you see us/Sarge in the park, please stop and say hello. We would love to meet those of you we haven't met!
Hug your loved ones close! You just never know!

Sarge is doing so well!!! I have to be honest. When Christina and I brought him in after the attack I had very little hope. My brother and sister-in-law changed their flight and came home early because Christina and I didn't feel right making the decision on whether we kept him alive or not. My brother knew he was a fighter. He had NO DOUBT. I remember thinking in my head "wow my brother is in such denial"...well, he is a fighter! My brother had a huge work conference in Vegas this weekend so they found a hotel that took dogs. He is a superstar there! He is now running after tennis balls for a few minutes and getting back to normal!!!

Update on Sarge! My brother and I just finished a visit with Sarge at the vet and it went fantastic! We were able to take him outside and he even stood for quite awhile! He followed his little tennis ball with his eyes back and forth over and over. He also ate a teaspoon of chicken today! This little guy is the toughest dog around and I know he will be able to come home in no time! Once again, thank you all for loving on him so much!
