GREAT NEWS!
Mathew's therapists want to transition him into
a powered wheelchair to give him more independence.
Mat will celebrate his 7
th
birthday in October and the goal is to have him in this chair by that time. The leading factor in
keeping him from this new adventure is a vehicle that will allow him to stay in the chair and be safely transported. That
means we need to purchase a manual conversion van. There are super fancy ones, but we have opted for the simplest in
order to save money and have fewer chances for complications with electric parts failing in the future.
Mat requires multiple therapies several times a week for his Spastic Dipalegic Cerebral Palsy. These include occupational
therapy, physical therapy as well as speech therapy. He has also been diagnosed with Epilepsy and that condition has
played havoc with his health the last two years. The details are too overwhelming to relive, but he is doing great since his
surgery this spring to remove his hip hardware and he is no longer in pain. In fact, He is moving about more and has
upped his game in therapy. Mat is not able to fully sit up on his own for more than just a few minutes, nor can he stand,
which makes his chair a vital part of his life. He is non-verbal and uses a communication device to talk with us. Even
though this little boy has been through so much, he almost always has a smile on his face that could melt your heart.
Since his diagnosis we have done our best with family and friends to cover his needs. This van however is beyond our
grasps. As you can expect, mom is needed for 24 hour care and cannot work outside the home to assist with family
income. We are turning to those who can see Mathew and appreciate his strength and help us make his life full and as
independent as possible. All it takes is a van. It sounds so simple, but without help it will not happen.
Please accept Matt’s appreciation for considering his needs and our family’s gratitude for any funds you can contribute.
Please feel free to share our story.
