Alpena's Summer Movies By the Bay

Thunder Bay Film Society (TBFS) is a non-profit committee of people who are dedicated to sharing, supporting, promoting, and preserving the cinematic arts in Northeast Michigan. We feel there is a void in Northeast Michigan, when it comes to the art of cinema, and we hope to play a large part in filling that void by offering opportunities for the public to see and learn about films that are otherwise not widely available in the area. This includes older films of historical and cultural significance, as well as foreign, documentary, and independently-produced films.
We are very excited to introduce ourselves to the community by hosting a number of free, open-to-the-public, outdoor movie nights at the Bay View Park Bandshell, which will be called “Summer Movies by the Bay”. This will be the first of it’s kind in Alpena, and we hope and plan to continue these film screenings in subsequent years.
The Summer Movies by the Bay will take place on 3-5 different Friday nights during August, and into September, with plans to increase the number of screenings in Summer 2016. Because it is an outdoor event, the films begin playing once it is dark enough to clearly see the projection. This will be at about 10pm, ending around midnight for a typical 2-hour movie. The City Council has approved the events, and are very excited about it. We encourage the public to come out, bring their families, lawn chairs, blankets, and curl up under the stars for a night of great cinema. We are reaching out to food vendors to be present during the screenings, and we plan to play a variety of genres, from classics to comedies, animation, sci-fi, and more.
I am writing this letter to ask for your support. Without the support of active community members like yourself, it would not be possible to put on such a wonderful event.
As a non-profit committee, all the money raised will be used only for materials and services which serve our mission of increasing exposure to the art of cinema. If you'd like to see more arts and culture in Northeast Michigan, please consider donating to our cause! Thank you so much!
