Mourning Shave for Invasion Day

Donation protected
To mark Invasion Day on the 26th January in 2017, Wiradjuri and Maori woman Latoya Rule will be shaving her head at the Australia Day celebrations on Kaurna country to declare a day of mourning for herself and her community. As we mourn and remember those who have been lost to the genocidal system, we are not proud and we do not celebrate this day.

In the lead up to this event, Latoya is calling for financial assistance via gofundme to support the group Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance (WAR), of which Latoya is a member, to begin an operations budget. Our initial $1,000 has been raised which will provide WAR with a much needed portable PA system, along with a BBQ. Both these items will be used for community outreach, rallies and fundraisers.

We are now hoping to raise $10,000 for BBQ foods, tents, ground sheets, swags and tarps for community outreach. If you would like to partner with us on a non-financial level, or to a greater degree, please contact WAR on our page linked below.

WAR is a collective of young Aboriginal people committed to the cause of decolonization and the philosophy of Aboriginal nationalism - resistance and revival.

Please support Latoya in this mourning shave and support WAR in future resistance.
