I'm a Senior at the University of Southern California School of Architecture and my thesis combines my two passions; motorcycles and architecture. Last Semester I wrote my thesis and it described how I was going to combine these two loves of mine into something real. My vision was to take the two things I know most about and successfully combine them into a design that's unique and practical, all the while, retaining the essences of each subject. Motorcycles are athletic machines that give us the ability to travel, unlike any other vehicle. Architecture, in this instance, distills down to a creatively designed shelter that intelligently performs it's programmatic function(s) efficiently, all the while remaining practical to build/afford. I'm not just designing a motorcycle with architecture strapped to it, I'm designing and building a shelter solution that's dependently integrated into an all-terrain motorcycle. Its purpose is to give its user a travel experience unlike any other; nearly uninhibited travel on an athletic and widely capable vehicle all while providing the user a home that's comfortable, practical, and sustainable. If the RV was architecture on four wheels, this would be an attempt at architecture on two. The first goal is to finish building and the prototype by the end of April 2018, this prototype will be a fully functioning vehicle. This vehicle will provide the user a means of heated shelter, a kitchen, a dining space, all atop an on/off-road capable motorcycle.
BY MAY 2018
This Goal includes the second step of my thesis project: building architecture on two wheels! Last semester entailed writing about the idea, now I need to finish building it by late April 2018. In just the last couple weeks of 2017, I managed to hurdle the first two obstacles of this goal. I've extended the swing-arm of the bike I started with, as well as converted the front end of the bike over to a much more capable and beefed up CR500 setup. With your support, I'll be able to bring this thing into reality without having to dig myself into even more college loan debt.

Once the first prototype is complete I'll put the MotoHome to the test! The entire reason for designing a fully capable off-road motorcycle shelter is because the intention is to be able to travel as I please and take the path less traveled. The narrative behind my design is that it would allow me to take the trip of a lifetime to the southernmost tip of South America and back. I'll be crossing over twenty thousand miles of deserts, rivers, beaches, and possibly scaling the Andes mountains! I'll be following in the footsteps of the many riders who've accomplished such amazing feats, however, the main difference is that I'll be doing it on a bike I built and designed, that has an integrated shelter I built, all with your support. There's nothing else like it for architects. We work and live to hopefully, one day, experience (and share the experience) we've designed in all it's functioning glory. If the time comes for the real trip to begin, I'll be looking to assemble a team to document the trip and project thus far. I'll be broadcasting the trip LIVE when I can for my supporters and other curious minds to follow along. The trip will most likely turn into at least a documentary, or maybe even a show series! I see the limitless potential and I'm excited for wherever things go, no matter how far they go. I'm just happy I get to share the experience with my family, friends and supporters.

MotoHome™ audience! It's been a hectic couple weeks as I've both begun full-time work at one of the best architecture firms in Sacramento: DLR Group! Secondly the MotoHome is evolving and gathering more and more followers due to some serious press lately. For now, I'd like to share the most recent MotoHome accomplishment that I'm so proud of. Introducing the MotoHome's first promotional video. Thanks to my brother Garret, we were able to get this thing out there just in time for a LIVE INTERVIEW WITH FOX 40 COVERING THE MOTOHOME! Check out the videos and please share them. Even though the MotoHome isn't completely ready 100% for testing, I JUST COULDN'T WAIT ANY LONGER! My Father Mark, helped me capture some awesome footage of the MotoHome in action and I hope you all love it. The footage was even featured during the FOX 40 interview! More updates coming soon. I have a backlog of content and updates I'll try and get out soon. Thanks once again to everyone that helped make this thing possible so far. You supporters should be as proud as I am. You all are awesome.

I'm so stoked to complete the final few things this prototype needs before testing.

Less than a week away from my final presentation! I think the feeling of success and accomplishment is finally setting in. Just a few short months ago I officially decided that by the end of April I would have turned a dream into a reality and a thesis project unlike any other. With just a few more pieces to add, the first ever MotoHome™ prototype is nearly complete. I can't wait to begin testing it for further proof of concept. Early on I had doubters, I had naysayers and skeptics, even some of my family had their reservations. Who can blame anyone really? I'm sure this is what happens to every man or woman who sets their sights on something that's never been done. Eventually, the criticism and skepticism started turning more and more into pure support and belief in the MotoHome's possibility. Thank goodness for my family, close friends, and gofundme supporters. You all made the journey so much simpler. You gave me the little bit of flexibility my budget needed to keep the project on schedule and in lines with my initial intent. Even if I could have finished the project on my own, I'm so glad I didn't have to for once. Typed text cannot come anywhere close to thank you all for how much you've done for me.

As the finish line approaches, I can begin to think more and more about the future of MotoHome™. As the owner of the trademark and provisional patent, I'm unbelievably excited for the future. As mentioned months ago, the ultimate test for the MotoHome involves an adventure that will take me to South America. Before that happens I'll be conducting a series of trips that will test the MotoHome in hopes of provoking improvements to the design to better ready both me and the MotoHome for the ultimate test. Depending on future sponsorships and support, these trips may even result in a second MotoHome prototype while I also pursue MotoHome as a startup business! Stay tuned to find out what will happen and share the project with others to keep MotoHome growing!

Love you all,

Jeremy Ryan Carman
