Mosaic: Declawed, sick senior

Mosaic is a 15 year old polydactyl calico who was dumped in the parking lot of an apartment building while the car sped away. She is emaciated and has a host of medical issues. She treads lightly, holding up one paw at a time, and it is apparent she is riddled with chronic, long term pain, due to being declawed earlier in her life. Declawing is an excruciating process that involves the amputation of the last bone of each toe. If performed on a human being, it would be the equivalent of cutting off each finger at the last knuckle. It is an unnecessary mutilation that provides no medical benefit to the cat and carries the long-term risks of lameness and behavioral problems (non use of litter box, biting, personality change). Mosaic cannot walk pain free as a result of this barbaric process.

Clearly Mosaic has been neglected for quite some time. Her ears are infected and blood-work shows hyperthyroidism and a heart murmur. Her thyroid issue may be causing her heart condition, and she obviously has not been to a vet in a long time.  All cats need yearly vet visits, but a senior cat MUST get regular preventive care, annual visits and blood-work.

This senior girl is not thrilled to be at the shelter, but we are hopeful that medication, comfort, and monitoring for her thyroid will bring her some relief. A dental to pull rotten teeth and address red gums will be in her future as well. Right now she needs some sponsors for her meds and continued medical testing and procedures.
