Montfort Residents Sinkhole Fund

On the evening of 10/2/18 our family member walked out of the garage into the back yard/alley and the ground gave way and he fell 25 plus feet into a sinkhole.  The experience for him has been traumatizing, as he remained in the hole for up to 30 minutes calling for help and bracing himself as the dirt continued to fall over him.  A neighbor heard him and came to his aid and was able to comfort him and contact 911.  First responders with the Montfort EMS and Fire Department arrived at the scene and worked very diligently and were able to successfully get him out of the hole with minor injuries.  We are now left with the aftermath as the entire event feels surreal.   We have contacted our home  insurance company which does not cover environmental shifts in the earth or things of this nature.  We have contacted our Village who we are working with now to determine the best course of action as the hole lies very close to residential and village property lines.  We were told that the town's insurance does not cover this as well.  They continue to assist in trying to find out who and how this occurred and how they provide support/assistance.  Montfort is a small Southwest Wisconsin town that also struggles financially.  The EMS and Fire Department are all volunteers and we appreciate their dedication and support through this rescue.  At this time we do not know where to start with this process and how much it will cost.  We are guessing at a starting point with this Go Fund Me.  All funds donated will go to the repair/reverse grading and assessment of the sinkhole and property for safety to prevent this from happening again.  It is our goal that our home and neighborhood is safe for our family and neighborhood children and families who walk and play here everyday. 
We again would like to thank our neighbor Josh for his bravery and support, the Montfort EMS and Fire Department, Grant County Police Department, and all of our family and friends who have reached out to our to us with open arms.
If donations are in excess of the cost, we will be donating back to the Montfort EMS and Fire Department for all their hard work and efforts.
