One thing is common in all of us: we got our lives from a mother and we spent some time safely nested in their womb to grow and be strong before we come out to this world and face the challenges of Life.
For some mothers and babies, however, the safe nesting and the bliss we all imagine coming with pregnancy is not a reality: complications happen in the pregnancy which may manifest in the threat of preterm labor or delivery. A baby born substantially before its due date will need to be kept in a neonatal intensive care unit, which is not only heartbreaking for the parents and the little one who starts his/her life separated from the warmth of their loving families, but it also imposes huge costs on society, as neonatal intensive care is one of the most costly types of care in any medical system.
Therefore, hospitals work very hard to prevent preterm labor/delivery and keep the babies cooking within their mom's wombs as long as possible. For the above mentioned "threatening cases", close monitoring of the babies within the womb will become an utmost necessity, since the pregnancy needs to be ended and the baby brought to the world if it is distressed in the womb for whatever reason (e.g. lack of amniotic fluid, bad circulation of the placenta, etc.).
There is a university clinic in Hungary where I am staying due to a threat of preterm delivery over several weeks. I am in a ward where they mostly monitor more advanced pregnancies and babies to ensure they are kept within the womb as long as possible, but no longer than it is safe for them to stay.
I have met incredible kindness, professionalism and humanity here despite many complicated cases, long nights and...very old and scarce equipment.
The cardiotocographs (CTG-s) they use in my ward to measure the babies heartbeats and movements were bought in the 1990s, and are switched on almost 24/7, as there are only 2 machines for 20 people who are monitored on average 2 times a day. They need to be "helped out" by another machine and replaced as soon as possible!
This project is to raise money for a new CTG machine for my ward and, alternatively, should money remain, repaint the rooms as this has not been done for a while. I plan to raise the funds in the next 2 months and buy the machine for the ward (and/or fund the painting of the wing) - the targeted CTG machine is a Philips Avalon FM20. The handover will also be appropirately documented here, so donors can be assured how funds were spent.

Egy dolog biztosan közös bennünk: az életünket egy anyától kaptuk, akinek a hasába befészkelődve növekedtünk és erősödtünk néhány hónapig mielőtt világra jöttünk, hogy az Élet nagy kihívásával szembesüljünk.
Néhány anyuka és gyermek számára a terhesség örömtelisége sajnos nem realitás: komplikációk történnek a babavárás során, melyek sokszor a fenyegető koraszülés veszélyét eredményezik. A jelentősen idő előtt született babák újszülött intenzív osztályokra kerülnek, ami nemcsak a szülők és a Kicsik számára szívszorítóan nehéz (hiszen a várva várt csöppség az életét a szerettei nélkül, gépek között kezdi el), hanem a társadalomra is hatalmas költségeket terhel, mivel a koraszülött ellátás az egyik legköltségesebb fajta orvosi ellátás bármilyen rendszerben.
Ennek megelőzésén minden intézmény keményen dolgozik, és a kórházba került leendő anyukák pocakjában minél tovább próbálják bent tartani a csöppségeket. A fent említett „fenyegető” esetekben a babák hason belüli rendszeres megfigyelése szükséges, hiszen a terhességet be kell fejezni és a gyermeket el kell távolítani, akkor is, ha koraszülött lesz, amennyiben a gyermek már nincs biztonságban az anyaméhen belül
(pl. mert nincs elég magzatvíz vagy a méhlepény keringése nem megfelelő, stb.).
Én is ilyen okok miatt vagyok már néhány hete (és remélhetőleg még leszek is biztonságban egy magyar egyetemi klinikán). Egy olyan osztályra kerültem, ahol főleg előrehaladott terhességeket figyelnek, és addig próbálják meg a babákat „bent tartani”, amíg ott biztonságban vannak.
Hihetetlen kedvességgel, profizmussal és emberséggel vesznek bennünket körül a sok bonyolult eset és elavult berendezések ellenére…
Az osztályomon használt CTG berendezések, amikkel a Babák szívhangját és mozgékonyságát figyelik, a 1990-es években kerültek megvásárlásra, és szinte éjjel-nappal mennek, mivel összesen 2 gép van 20 kismama számára, akiket átlagosan naponta 2x kell velük vizsgálni. Kellene legalább egy új gép, ami kisegíti a mostaniakat!
Ezzel a projekttel egy új CTG –gépet szeretnék vásárolni az osztály számára, illetve ha még maradna pénz (vagy ehelyett, ha nem lenne elegendő), kifesteni az osztályt, mert arra is óriási szükség van.
A készülék egy Philips Avalon FM20.
Természetesen az átadást is megfelelően dokumentálni fogjuk az oldalon keresztül, hogy minden kedves adakozó meggyőződhessen arról, hogy a pénz megfelelően lett elköltve.
