Save The World - Mongol Rally 2018

Donation protected
The Civilised Gamers are undertaking The Mongol Rally 2018 . Our aim is to raise £1500 in support of three essential charities. We do however believe that these charities deserve as much as we can possibly raise for them and therefore we see our goal as higher. These organizations are not only close to our hearts but also unwaveringly serve local communities, across the United Kingdom and throughout the world. To achieve this goal, we are driving our pretty little Nissan Micra to Mongolia and back.

The Charities

Cool Earth  - Official charity of The Mongol Rally 2018

This non-profit organisation works closely alongside rainforest communities to stop deforestation and its devastating impact on our planet and our climate. Their focus is putting control back into the hands of local communities who stand to lose the most from deforestation but the most to gain from its protection.

I have personally seen the devastation large scale deforestation causes in the jungles of Borneo. The damage to the local communities, the local wildlife and the once beautiful land is staggering. Thankfully, the team behind Cool Earth is doing incredible work safeguarding over half a million acres of rainforest across our planet.

Thames Valley Air Ambulance

The Thames Valley Air Aimbulance service operates throughout Bucks and the Thames Valley area. They deliver treatment that would normally only be available in a hospital by taking advanced medical care and expertise directly to the patient. This saves critical time when minutes could mean the difference between someone living or dying. Therefore a patient is given hospital level care quickly increasing their chances of survival.

They rely on the generosity of people. They are not government funded and recieve no national lottery funding.

Smiles

Smiles was established in September 2014 for adults with disabilities and run not-for-profit. Smiles was initially based from Stoke Mandeville Stadium (Home of the paralympic sports) but has since moved to Buckingham Park Community Centre to serve a wider community.  The dedicated people behind this organisation play a vital role within their community. Smiles exists to assist adults with disabilities in improving fitness, coordination, physical well-being, and social skills by way of providing a variety of activities in a safe environment.

The Rally

The Mongol Rally lives by 3 straightforward rules the first being that you take a small, cheap and rubbish car (Megan is beautiful but that is not the point). The reason for this is simple, your more likely to breakdown and then you have to interact with the locals to have any chance of making it. The second rule is, you are on your own. You plan your route, you drive and no matter the obstacles you cross the finish line (or fly home, preferably not).

The last rule is simple, save the world. Out of the hundreds of teams every year that take part everyone of them is asked to raise a minimum of £1000 for charity. So far The Adventurists and The Mongol Rally have raised over £7million to aid Cool Earth in the continued protection of our rainforests.

The Mongol Rally storms across 10,000 miles of mountains, desert and steppe of Europe and Asia to the finish line at the russian town of Ulan-Ude. We will of course, be driving our magnificant car back another 12,000 miles or so through some of the most picturesque landscapes imaginable whilst photographing and filming the entire journey.

The Team

The Civilisied Gamers consist of a group of likeminded friends who play skill based games and generally hold toxicity online in contempt. The members involved in this undertaking are Jake and Matt, a photographer and an accountant from Buckinghamshire. We plan to see some cool things, have abit of fun and support some decent charities in the process.

All donations will be split threeways between our chosen charities.
