Molly - Jeff Peeters Building Fund

Donation protected
On February 4, 2016, three-week old newborn Martin Henry Peeters died after an unsuccessful open heart surgery that was undertaken to try to repair a complex congenital heart defect. This loss has broken the hearts of Martin’s parents, Molly and Jeff Peeters.  The tragedy is compounded by the fact that just a year earlier they had buried their first son Wyatt James Peeters. Wyatt had the same heart defect in a form so severe that attempting surgery was not even an option.

Both babies had a genetic birth defect called Heterotaxy Syndrome which includes significant heart defects. After Wyatt was diagnosed, basic genetic testing was performed. Molly and Jeff, as responsible parents, felt comfortable going ahead with another pregnancy as they had been reassured that Wyatt’s genetic issues were a “random event” and a repeat was unlikely. Unfortunately, this turned out to be incorrect as Martin carried the same genes as his brother that resulted in his serious heart defect.  Martin’s heart defect was less severe than Wyatt’s had been; there was hope that surgery could save him and he could eventually lead a normal life. It did not work out that way.

The Peeter’s local rural community and the communities of both of their extended families want to help the Peeters in dealing with this tragedy. Molly and Jeff are in the process of building a modest Adirondack style home themselves on their land.  The view from the house’s proposed location includes a beautiful view; Molly and Jeff celebrated their marriage here and here is where their sons are now buried.  Completing the house and setting up their own barn and milk house to sell organic milk from their dairy cows is their dream.

Expenses related to their medical bills and Molly not being able to work for a period of time has caused them a degree of financial hardship.

This fund has been established to provide building materials that will be used to build their house. This would allow them to leave their current house where they have experienced such sadness and loss and move to the property where their sons are buried. Thank you for any funds you can provide.
