Molly Volkhardt Hulbert began experiencing abdominal pain a few weeks ago. Doctors with Mercy Health diagnosed her with gastrointestinal issues. As the pain intensified, more tests were run.
A large tumor was found on her gall bladder. It is intertwined with her liver and declared inoperable. Doctors believe it is gall bladder cancer and incurable. They said chemotherapy will shrink it, but that's it.
As a devoted wife to Marc, doting mother of two young boys, dedicated employee of Cascade Hospital for Animals and a dear friend and daughter, this is devastating news. But the family has a fighting spirit, and while appreciative of the care and services Mercy Health has provided, they are not satisfied with the diagnosis and "nothing can be done" plan.
A biopsy is scheduled for Thursday, June 16 to determine the exact make-up of the cancerous tumor. After this, Marc and Molly will choose a specialty hospital like Mayo Clinic for additional opinions and treatment plan options.
Marc is taking a leave of absence from his employer. While his insurance will cover most of Molly's medical expenses, they will need money for any unexpected medical needs that may not be covered and out-of-state traveling costs.
Many have reached out to the family asking how they can help. If you're able to provide any monetary assistance, Marc, Molly and the boys would be extremely appreciative. It would lessen the heavy burden they've been given as they journey to find a cure.
