Help us raise funds to build a "traveling" amateur boxing program for youth from Columbia's underprivileged communities. Many of these kids may display behavior issues and often are not apart of any activity that could help them due to finances or because of their poor behavior. Our aim is to appeal and engage the target (at-risk) youth group through the sport of boxing. The program, coupled with the intimate boxer-coach relationship, will challenge each youth with a unique amateur boxing training experience, through which each member will develop increasing levels of basic life skills including (discipline, *respect for adults, responsibility, respect for rules, physical fitness, self-confidence, self-esteem, structure, commitment and enjoyment from success!) We especially cherish the opportunity to show our members the direct relation between hard work and achievement.
We will recruit the participation of local law enforcement to act as daily sponsors/ workout partners to our participants. This will allow the forming of a more intimate relationship between law enforcement and our community’s youth. This direct contact will allow FCU and law enforcement agencies to more effectively discourage participation in illegal activities.
As they develop in this FREE program, they will earn their spots to represent Columbia SC as they travel to compete in amateur boxing competitions at least twice a month as far as Florida and Washington D.C. In order for them to become a part of the traveling team they must fulfil their socail and academic obligations ie..staying out of trouble at home and in school, maintaining passing grades (We will provide tutoring) and coming to all scheduled practices.
