Financial Support for Syrian Refugee in Hospice

Donation protected
Mohamed Alareed is the oldest son of a Syrian immigrant family that came to the United States in 2016. The family is from Aleppo, Syria and was forced from their home in 2013 and walked on foot to Turkey, where they lived in the refugee camps for several years.  Mohamed has been battling cancer since he was 9 years old and was blessed to have met an amazing doctor in the refugee camps that was able to secure legal residency in the U.S. for the family to come to our country to receive medical care. Mohamed and four of his younger siblings all moved to Atlanta in 2016 and since that time, he has received excellent care from the amazing doctors at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

His parents Husni and Samirah both work full-time to support their family and community.  Two of their daughters attend the Global Village Project school for refugee girls, where they have learned English and are among the top students . They will head to high school next year.

Mohamed is now 20 years old and his medical condition has deteriorated over the past six months and he is now in hospice care at home. He has excellent medical care and many praying for him in the community. Fortunately, Medicaid provides for some nursing support in the home and there are amazing nurses that visit him weekly. But his parents have had to reduce their working hours to provide nearly 24-hour care for him, including throughout the night.

The goal of this campaign is to raise funds to be used to provide essential needs for the Alareed family as they focus their energy on supporting Mohamed in hospice care. They have all suffered enough over the past 6 years of their family's journey from their homeland. We hope to provide them with some financial relief so they can spend quality time with their son.

The family is an loving group of human beings that have suffered mightily given the war in Syria.  Despite this, every one in the family, including Mohamed, would give you the shirt off their backs. They are genuine, caring, and appreciative people - and exactly the type of refugees that will make our country a better place. Simply put, they are an amazing family that needs our help.

Thank you for considering a small donation to help this family find some peace in their greatest time of need.
