Models For Troops

Donation protected
My name is Jon Emery and I am an 8-year Army veteran and a model builder.

While my son was serving in Iraq as an MP in 2011 I was inspired by another gentleman helping wounded vets in Texas through the use of model making. In May of 2012 I started Models for Troops in Creedmoor, NC.  At M4T, I provide a 2-fold service to our United States military community, both active duty and medically retired. Support is provided, free of charge, to disabled and injured veterans through referrals and by supplying model kits to Rec Therapy Programs at VA Hospitals in 5 states. I also act as a Point of Contact for active duty personnel being deployed overseas through the IPMS-USA Support the Troops initiative.

Through generous donations collected at model contests and through individual donors, troops stationed in war-torn areas are supplied with packages containing plastic model kits of all scales and subject matter, sanding sticks, glues, trimmers, acrylic paints, brushes, and model building magazines for recreation.

From August 2012 until December 2015, more than 3,000 lbs. (over 1 ton) of kits and building supplies have been distributed.

As a part of larger VA recreational therapy programs, model making  helps veterans suffering from PTSD, TBI and other post combat related issues find a way to refocus the minds attention. Much like meditation, it has been found that building plastic model kits is a great way to tie the veteran’s past to a more positive present and future. Whether building a kit or just following the directions and diagrams, it is the process and not the finished model that is the greatest benefit. A little goes a long way. It truly is the journey and not the destination.

If you know of a deployed or injured service member who would enjoy our services or if you would like to make a donation or start your own local program, please contact me and we can discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

ITEMS NEEDED:
Model kits (all scales and subject matter) ● Glues (plastic and Super)  ● Sanding sticks ● Hobby knives ● Acrylic hobby paints and brushes  ● Gift cards to Michael’s or AC Moore ● Model Books and Magazines

The money I am asking for is to fund the current operations for a year as well as cover the cost of becoming a true non-profit and within that same year, be positioned to be self-sufficient through charitable donations.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Kind regards,
Jon Emery
