Mlesh's Biointensive Training Farm
Early in 2017, my friend Mlesh Ellijah (Jonnes Ellijah Mlegwah) started a research and training farm center in Kenya based on John Jeavons' Grow Biointensive method. (More information about this is below.) Thanks to all those who donated to get Mlesh started last year!
Mlesh has various needs in expanding his work and reach this year. One of these is a collection of trainings Mlesh is going to give for farmers in other locations next week. Mlesh needs $400 to travel to these areas. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated!
I met Mlesh at the Soil Not Oil Conference last August in the San Francisco Bay Area. Mlesh studied John Jeavons' Grow Biointensive method at Jeavons' center in Willits, CA.
Mlesh started by clearing an acre of virgin land for the farm center earlier this year. The photo above is of Mlesh on his cleared land. He has made good progress since then. The photo at the top is a recent one with Mlesh's daughter standing in a flourishing part of Mlesh's farm.
Below is John Jeavons' Ecology Action website which has a good amount of information on the Grow Biointensive method. It's a method that uses 60-88% less water than conventional agriculture, requires no external outputs, meaning no herbicides, pesticides, synthetic or even organic fertilizer, and has 5-7 times the yield of conventional agriculture. It also adds about 20 pounds of soil for each pound of food produced, while even most organic agriculture results in the loss of 3-5 pounds of soil for every pound of food produced.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your consideration!
