Chiari, A Home and help...
Hi, my name is Eli, short for Elijah. I have Chiari malformation. That's where the base of the brain is falling into the spinal cord. I do have Medicaid but doctors in my area don't want to perform the operation. I'm not sure if it's the Medicaid they don't want to accept or if there's another reason they won't do it. I was told to go to Grand Rapids to see if a doctor there will do it for me. Grand Rapids is about two and a half hours from me. In the meantime, I have many symptoms and have lost jobs in the past because of them. Employers say it is unsafe for them to keep me as I sometimes shake, throw up and just feel a kind of brain fog that overtakes me. These symptoms come and go and I can't predict when one will happen. In the meantime, I have a fiance who recently lost her home. Her mother is currently taking care of her two young children on very little money and they are even in the process of possibly losing their home do to my fiance's father being very ill with C.O.P.D. Her mother is on SSI so they live on very little. My fiance's home she was renting was falling apart, had black mold growing everywhere and pipes that didn't work currectly. We are now homeless together although we have stayed in a motel, at a friends and at her mother's house as it's winter and much too cold to have to be outside with no place to keep warm. Even getting back and forth to a doctor's appointment for either of us is more than we can offord, 'finding someone to take us' while trying to find a home of our own, somewhere to bring the children to also. We are quite a ways from the nearest town so gas money to others cost's a lot. She also has four older children. Three are with friends and the oldest is pretty much on her own and in college. Just about all of the children are on the honor roll....'very proud of them' ! My fiance's vehicle broke down some time ago and it had to be junked so neither of us have a vehicle to even ride around to see if we can find somewhere to rent. That plus everything we have found so far is very high in monthly rent. My fiance battles Graves disease so she gets SSI which is about seven hundred per month. In order to find something we can afford we must find a home that is only five fifty or so, so we can afford utilities and things the kids might need. I very much want to get my operation so I can go back to work. 'I'm not on SSI or anything else at the moment' and it makes me quite sad that I can't contribute until I get this operation behind me. The doctors tell me the operation has a very high rate of coming out good with symptoms being gone. I can only dream right now! I don't have a bank account so I guess if anyone does donate to my cause, our cause, I would use part of that to open one. Using my fiance's mom's computer to post this. I'm hoping someone out there reads this and takes to heart that there are many people who wish not to be in the postition they find themselves in. Sometimes a hand out is not what it sounds like, it's a hand up and that could be all that's needed to get someone on their way. Thank you to anyone taking the time to read this. God Bless!
