Des Skelton was diagnosed with primary progress Multiple sclerosis in 2006. Since being diagnosed his mobility has greatly deteriorated meaning he is unable to leave the house independently. Being dependent on mobility aids or people to take him out means he is unable to do many of the things people take for granted.Dispute this awful diseases Des’s main goal is to remain independent.
Des has always been passionate about spending time at the beach. before being diagnosed he would often be seen paddling in a kayak or or bodyboarding in big waves.
Now having two young grandchildren who also love the beach Des is not even able to access the sandy beach to make sand castles with them as a standard wheelchair is impossible to push over sand.
A standard Wheelchair is fine if traveling over flat and even ground. But this restricts us as a family as to where and what we can do.
The Trekinetic power chair would make such a difference to the everyday quality of his life and would raise the possibility of his involvement in activities such as going on the sand with his grandchildren and having the freedom to access other places that have uneven terrain.
It is so important to be able to get outdoors and experience all the health benefits both physically and mentally being in the fresh air brings. Furthermore the Trekinetic is so sturdy its ability to cope with really difficult terrain means not only could he access terrain that is currently inaccessible his confidence would improve no end knowing that the chair wouldn’t tip over.(This has happened twice ).
The Skelton family along with friends are raising money to help purchase a Trekinetic power chair for Des please help us.
