Alexa has been selected at Miss Indiana, to represent our state in the 2016 Miss International Pageant in Jacksonville Florida, July 25-30 of this year. I was shocked when she said she was selected because she has no pageant experience and no formal training of any kind. I never even knew this was something she wanted to try and I dont think she gave it much thought at first.
They ask all of the contestants to speak from a platform, and the one she chose was domestic violence and child abuse trauama. She has her own story of domestic violence from being the 4th kid of 6. She watched her mom live through abuse at the hands of her father. He took 4 of her brothers and sisters away from her mom. For 8 years she watched, listened and heard the abuse continue on with another woman in her dads life. Alexa suffered from signs of PTSD, and severe panic attacks from the years of being in a home where mental, verbal and physical violence was present.
Alexa will tell her story in the 2016 pageant, and has partnered with some organizations, volunteering, educating others on the importance of getting out, getting help and finding your voice. It has become her life story and passion to educate herself on the effects of child abuse from living in a home with domestic violence.
Today, Alexa is 20 years old and a full-time college student at Ivy Tech Community college, she desires to become a Trauma nurse, loves helping others and loves to sing.
