Miracles for Gunna

Donation protected
In March of 2011, Gunna became very ill quite suddenly from a rare tumor that had developed on her optic nerve and eye, which was partially removed through emergency surgery. Though this was not good news, it was manageable.

In February 2016, the tumor showed evidence of growth; there was a mass attached to her ocular nerve and eye. The mass was subsequently removed through surgery.   The removed mass was diagnosed as cancerous.   Just one month later, Gunna was referred and went to Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL. It was determined at that time that the tumor was growing, and that the eye had lost all vision.  The sad prescribed treatment was removal of the eye, a very hard but necessary path.  Gunna, as she is with most of life’s challenges, courageously completed the surgery with almost no interruption to the amazing maternal care of her wonderful family.   She remained fully and competently in the service of others, and her multiple jobs to provide for her family.

As is with most cancers of this nature, scans and treatments are dark gifts, both costly and interfering upon daily life, yet very necessary.   For Gunna, by November 2017, scans revealed two spots on her lungs.  Biopsies came back with a dire report of the advancement of her diagnosis to Metastatic Melanoma. She was given a bleak outlook for healing.  She began many rounds of immunotherapy treatments. These treatments made her very ill, and she was hospitalized for a lengthy time.  She continued to mother, and care for her family’s every need; she continued her duties as PTA president, all while working as often as she could, because Gunna is the main financial support of her family.

The masses in her lungs were advancing, and several more masses were detected on her liver. Immunotherapy ceased to be a viable solution.  She sought out new trials, being conducted locally, geared toward her cancer, and for mainly genetic incompatibility, she was rejected.  She was recently accepted into a trial in Pittsburg, PA.  She has begun the first leg of her journey with this radically new genetic application to chemotherapy.  It is, on so many levels, her best hope for healing.

Obviously, her financial needs have become overwhelming, and her family’s needs are paramount to her every thought.  Add to this the extreme travel involved in this trial, and the picture becomes vivid of why we are asking for financial support for her amazing family. Those of you who know Gunna well are probably familiar with her work in catering.   If she does not work, she does not receive income.

Firstly, we ask for everyone to pray for Gunna’s absolute healing, for her three children, Caleb, 17, Jonah, 15 and Olivia Grace, 9, and for their father, Sheffie.   Although they live in separate households, they work diligently together in the financial, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of their family. We ask that you share only if and as you are led.  This is her most desperate hour.

Thank you all who have already been praying for Gunna , her healing, and her amazing family. Thanks in advance to anyone who is led to donate.  She is so grateful!
