On September 2, 2016, Mindy Carter was headed to work at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. Before she was able to leave her hometown of Oak Ridge, a trailer carrying a small loader crushed and trapped her into her car.

The Fire Department in Oak Ridge worked for nearly an hour to remove her from the car, calling her removal "the worst extrication I've seen where the person was still alive."
Mindy was immediately airlifted to University of Tennessee Medical Center where they found that she had multiple broken bones to both legs, torn muscles and tendons, and extensive bruising. Her survival by all accounts has been considered a miracle.
Mindy is a wife and mother to three beautiful children. As her friends, we see her compassion daily at East Tennessee Children's Hospital where she works as a Pediatric Oncology Nurse. Her determination and resilient spirit will help her in this journey, but she and her family will need assistance in the coming months.

We cannot stress enough what a selfless and kind person Mindy is. Her patients value her talent and poise, even stating how fitting it was for an angel to be with Mindy on the day of her accident - just like she is an angel for them.
Her friends consider her family - she will drop everything to be at a friend's side if they need it. We can recall many occasions where Mindy would give her time, money, clothing, or effort to assist her friends - all without asking for even a thanks in return.
In her family, she is loved for her humor, love, and feistiness. She provides for her family, always thinking of them - often at her own detriment.
