Mini Cooper to WRC Mexico 2017

Donation protected

Unfortunately I'm still waitng for the FIA certification for the roll cage. Without this certificate the Mini would fail the rally technical test. Therefore I have to wait until I recieve the certificate which could be after the shipping deadline. The other competitor could not wait and has already shipped his car to Mexico.

The Deadline is Mid january 2017 to have the funds for the shipping. any size donations is much appreciated.

The purpose of this fund raising campaign is to fulfil our goal of competing in a WRC event with all our rally heroes of today’s world rally championship and take our humble British motoring Icon “Mini Cooper” to WRC.

We built the Mini Cooper to rally after the exciting news that Prodrive had developed a Mini Countryman for WRC in 2012 but sadly the Mini works team was gone just over a year later.  With a passion for Mini since the 70's, having owned/built several Classic Mini's I want to have our Mini Cooper back in WRC and share the whole story with Mini/Rally enthusiasts worldwide

Since I started rallying I’ve dreamed big and worked with passion, dedication and determination to fulfil those dreams and goals. Along the way we have had family, friends and many supporters to help us compete on the events but to compete in Rally Mexico WRC 2017 with require a lot more funding than in previous years. The funding generated with this campaign would go towards the shipping logistics of the Mini Cooper and spares from Costa Rica to Mexico  needed to complete the 3 days of rally stages. We appreciated any donation big or small and will post all donation names on the Mini so you all will be with us on the event.

I would appreciate your time to read a brief history of my rallying adventures.

I’m Chris Wilson and have been rallying since 1989 in England starting with a beat up old Ford Escort MK2 that I built myself from many used spare parts, That Escort taught me the basics in rallying driving and gave me experience on many different road surfaces, as I gained more experience and got quicker so did the Escort development which spanned 3 good years until I rolled the Escort in Yorkshire.

Lucky for me I survived the accident and was able to sell all the parts of the car to buy a 1986 Group N MG Maestro.

With the Maestro I was able to compete in FIA events and after 2 years of events in the UK, the Maestro was shipped to the U.A.E to compete in the 1995 FIA Middle East championship taking me to the U.A.E, Jordan and Lebanon, then my life presented an opportunity taking my job to Dubai U.A.E for 2 years.

In 1999 I moved to California but the rally bug was still there so I got involved in the California Rally Championship then purchased a rally 1990 Subaru Legacy to complete and win the 2005 PGT class.

I rebuilt the Legacy in 2006 but my Job took me to Boston MA and Costa Rica, the Legacy was sold to finance the building of a 1989 Suzuki Swift GTi to compete in the Costa Rica rally championship. After 3 successful years and a lot of rebuilds the Suzuki was parted out to Finance the building of a 2004 Mini Cooper R50. With Mini back in rallying in 2012 I had to have a Mini to rally!

After a year of hard work, sweat, tears and development the Mini debuted in Costa Rica in 2013. The car performed well but needed some adjustments. 2014 saw the all the hard work come together as the first rally we won 10 out of 12 stages and even with a roll that destroyed the car we got 2nd in class.

After the roll the Mini and rally community came to together to help me rebuild the Mini better than it was to current ready to rally state.

I am the driver, mechanic, service crew, marketing manager since 1989, I have built all my rally cars and use them as daily drivers to reduce the costs.  The rally car is driven to the events, competes and hopefully I drive it home after Over the years my adventures have been covered on television, radio and magazines. Godrive Motorsport I operate in Costa Rica with the help of my co-driver Marianella Pereira.

Also my rally cars have been used to support charities, fund raisers and bring rallying to the fans that keep us going in this demanding motor sport.

If I’m not competing on a rallies I’m working them!

The nearest and I think the best WRC event to Costa Rica is in Mexico so my project is to rebuild the Mini and compete in the 2017 Rally Mexico event before either me or the Mini is too old!

Thank you so much for taking time to read this far, I hope you enjoyed the read and will enjoy updates as we progress closer to Rally Mexico 2017. Besitos to you all!
