Send Minasie to see his family
$6,790 of $3,000 goal
Minasie came to the US from Ethiopia 33 years ago, leaving behind his parents and 7 brothers and sisters. Minasie has been working at Augsburg College in custodial services for over 25 years. Minasie is a huge part of the college, making friends with everyone that he encounters. His custodial responsibilities mainly include the ice arena, where he has made an enormous impact on the men’s and women’s hockey teams. As alumni make their way back to campus, Minasie always remembers them, greeting them with a huge smile or a big hug! This past season he has joined the men’s hockey team’s weekly bible study, adding value with his insights and strong faith. He encourages the entire Augsburg staff with his bright smiles and his positive energy. I personally greet him with huge every morning! Beyond his faith, positive energy and daily smile, the Ice Arena is spotless. From cleaning the locker rooms and bathrooms to washing the glass before weekend games, the pride Minasie takes in his job is contagious.
Why Donate to Minasie
Since his arrival to the states 33 years ago, Minasie has never been back to visit his family in Ethiopia. A few family members have made the visit to the states to see him, but that was over 10 years ago. His mother became ill late last year and he wasn’t to make the trip back to Ethiopia to see her. Recently, his mother passed away, a very sad and emotional day at Augsburg. We found out he was unable to afford to see her and we want to provide him the opportunity to visit with his father and family. We feel that after all the time and energy of Minasie serving us, we would like to return the favor and unite him with his family!
Minasie is unaware of this as we want to surprise him once the goal is met. We are planning on presenting this to him at our year end banquet. Therefore intial donatoins will go to Christopher Johnson (Assistant Hockey Coach) and he will make a check out to Minasie.
This blew up in a great way.... we ended up surpassing our initial goal in under 9 hours and have received a lot of interest to share this story further. With the high interest of this story, we have informed Minasie that we are fundraising to allow him to visit his family. All that he knows are the basics that we are planning to help him visit home, he doesn't know how much is being raised or that so many people have helped make it happen.
This Wednesday, March 15th, our team is presenting Minasie an initial gift!
Thanks for all your support, more details to come!
I'm a graduate of Augsburg and when I was there Minasie was like a mentor, uncle, friend and ping-pong partner to me. I would like to contribute too if there's still a chance! Thanks for doing this! He's most deserving!
