The Nightmarish End of the Dream Center’s Higher-Ed Empire

‘Ruined’ and Evicted: How Dream Center Closures Are Affecting Students

Hello, my name is Kendrick Harrison I am a military veteran, entrepreneur, and a father of 6.

For the past several months Argosy University has violated their Financial Aid Stipend Return Policy, as well as robbed and cheated military veterans and students out of almost 16 million dollars. Unfortunately, I am one of those military veterans that have been robbed and cheated, Argosy University has illegally stolen over $15,000 from me and my family.   According to the Education Department, As Argosy University’s financial problems worsened, the troubled institution took millions in taxpayer dollars that were supposed to be disbursed to students, and instead used the money to pay its staff and vendors.

As a direct result of this situation Argosy has ruined my life.

I haven't gotten a stipend since December and I have been humbly requesting a release of my funds to no avail. Argosy has now closed its doors and still has thousands of dollars that are owed to me. My family and I are financially crippled by the actions of this organization. We can't hold out much longer. My landlord has filed for eviction and my family and I only have 10 days to get out. As a direct result of this situation I am being evicted from my home. I am being forced to change my children’s schools in the middle of the year, and soon my vehicle will be repossessed.  As a military veteran that chose to defend this great country.

I believe it to be a disservice for all students especially those that have earned their education on the battlefield, to have to worry more about their finances than earning their degree. As a student this has caused me a great deal of anxiety and undue stress. We hope to raise at least $15,000 to help our family recover from this unspeakable and heinous crime and pay off debts incurred by this situation. We will also use a portion of the money raise to pursue legal action against Argosy for payments of funds that Argosy has illegally withheld from students.

I want to leave you with this quote and thought “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Attributed to Edmund Burke, including by John F Kennedy in a speech in 1961. How much longer will we sit idle while the greedy and corrupt drain the life blood out of our nation? When organizations like Dream Center Education and Argosy University take advantage of our veterans and our citizens, how do we respond. Do we take care of those that have made unspeakable sacrifices and those that will one day take our places? I say to the American people and our leaders in government that answer will be in how you respond, not only to this situation but also what legislation we pass and politicians we elect in the future.
