Mikey Neidigk is a wonderful 3 year old boy that just didn't feel well.  After several trips to the doctor he was diagnosed with leukemia at the beginning of November.  Mikey's mom passed away not long after his birth but thankfully his Dad Nathan found love again and was recently married to a wonderful woman named Cameron.  However, the family is facing 3.5 years of chemotherapy treatment with the associated medical bills.  The family thanks you for your thoughts, prayers, and generosity during this tough time.  Any funds collected above the actual medical expenses will be donated to the Children's Cancer Fund of New Mexico and the Ronald McDonald House.

Mikey’s doing pretty well. They spent portions of 8 days of break at the hospital. They did get the results of the second bone marrow draw. The results confirmed the results of the first draw. It even came back a little worse. He’s still in remission, but instead of 2.4% he was 3%. Praying that this next set of chemo works or his docs will start thinking about bone marrow draws.

Here's an updated about Mikey from today. Today is Mikey’s first day of the second round of chemo. It’s been a long but not entirely stressful day. Port access was quick and they’ve done all their stuff. He had 3 types of chemo. 2 through the port. and one in spinal fluid. He had another bone marrow draw to see if first results were accurate. Now they’re starting him on a 4 hour hydration drip line. (His meds from today require that he be really hydrated.)

Keep him in your thoughts, happy holidays everyone.

Hey guys. So we just got the results from Mikey’s bone marrow biopsy. While he is considered to be in remission at this time, he is not yet in complete remission as we’d hoped. The doctor wants to do another biopsy on Tuesday to be sure the sample was accurate. We are beginning phase 2 of treatment on Tuesday and it will go for an 8 week duration. They will do yet another bone marrow biopsy at the end of phase 2, and if his numbers are still not low enough, we will have to consider a bone marrow transplant at that time. Please pray that his body continues to respond positively to the chemo and the lingering cancer cells are terminated during this phase. While this isn’t the worst news, it’s also not the best case scenario, and has us feeling the pressure of these next weeks. We love you

Please pass the word along again, we can use more donations.

Update from Mr. Neidigk: Today was a very busy day for Mikey. This was “day 29” a day that we’d had our eyes on since “day 1” when they started chemotherapy. The goals for today were another dose of chemotherapy administered into Mikey’s spine, blood labs, and a bone marrow draw. The bone marrow draw is the part that we were all interested in because they test the marrow to see if Mikey’s body is responding to the treatment. We won’t know until this coming Wednesday what the results are. So, we’ll just prayerfully wait that the results show that he is responding to treatment, and that Mikey’s oncology team can proceed with what I’ve dubbed “plan A”. They’ll have to change their treatment plan if his numbers are not good enough. We pray they are.
Mikey’s port has also given everybody quite a heartache. It had become kinked shortly after he first got it, and every chemo and lab day turned into 8-10 hour marathon for Mikey and his mom Cameron. We thought a fixed port would work well today, but he was still a bit swollen from the revision done to it Tuesday, so it was hard to gain access. We pray that it’ll be better by next week when they have to access it again. The doctors also determined that he had had an allergic reaction to the anesthesia used to put him under for the bone marrow draw.(it was the same med used for port surgery). He became quite aggressive and had to be sedated again with different medication and was administered a counter agent to the first medicine he was allergic to.
Long story short-Mikey had the procedures performed that he needed done, they took longer than expected, and we’ll know if he’s responding by next Wednesday.
