Help wake Mike Up!
Hi, thank you for taking the time to check out our fundraising page for Mike Kowalski.
Mike Kowalski? Who is he?
I'm glad you asked, Mike has served on the South Bend Fire Department for 38 years and is months away from retirement.
Apart from being one of the most knowledgeable firefighters on the job, Mike is an avid hobbyist from trains, to tanks, to firefighting. On a brief side note, Mike loved his hobbies. Mike actually owns and maintains a tank. Mike is passionate about his World War I/II reenactments. Mike was not actually a German tank commander he just plays one, if you need further proof just check out his last name. I hope this better helps explain some of the pictures in the movie clip.
Mike loves serving the public and never complains about the nature of his work. Mike is dependable, hard working, and passionate about teaching and helping others. Mike has shared his broad knowledge with a number of firefighters and has never hesitated helping someone learn more.
Now is our time to not hesitate to help Mike.
On the night of January 16th earlier this year he was driving home and got hit by a drunk driver. Mike's brain was injured in that accident and he was placed in a medically induced coma.
After several days he was taken out of his coma but he has not woken up yet.
Mike has bruises on his brain and although he is recovering physically we are all still waiting from him to wake up.
We are trying to raise at least $10,000 immediately so when he wakes up he can enjoy a long retirement and not have to worry about medical costs that are accruing. Please spread the word to your family, friends, and on social media.
Please keep Mike and his Family in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank You from the bottom of our hearts.

Sorry for he miscommunication on my part for that. Will be posting another update soon to talk more about Mike's progress. Thanks again.
He has been moved to more of a specialty hospital where he is still making improvements and getting closer to waking up. He is showing more movement and even opening his eyes at times.
He is fighting and our prayers are needed throughout this process. Thanks again for all your support.
I went to visit Mike yesterday and I brought my guitar with me. I enter the room and start playing and his legs start moving while his eyes are closed and he is coughing. He has some sort of cold he is coughing through his trach tube.
He seemed restless until I looked over at the board it said blues and history channel. I could only imagine those were his interests. I switched it up to play the blues on my guitar and he seemed to be more relaxed maybe I am making that up but it definitely felt like it.
Anyways it seems like any day he will just get out of bed and open his eyes. I pray when he does he will know how many people gave generously to him without hesitating. Thank you all again and please keep him and his family in your prayers.
On behalf of my brother Mike, his children and all of our family, I would like to thank Joshua Comeau, the firefighters and all who have extended a hand during the roughest of storms. You can't imagine how much your support has meant to our family. Mike is a character and I just know that he'd say with his best Elvis voice, "Thank you , thank you very much." I pray for the tomorrow that he can. Your generosity is most appreciated. Jeanne (Kowalski) Stevenson
