First of all, thank you so much for visiting our page! We truly appreciate your time and consideration.
We are raising money for Michael Healy's most recent medical and homecoming expenses. Mike has been through numerous extensive & complex surgeries over the last 35 years - all stemming from a form of cancer called Malignant Fibrous Hystiocytoma that originated on his spinal column. He has beaten many, many odds along his tiring journey, and is currently cancer-free. However, his spinal column has grown very sick over the years of wear and tear, and his most recent surgery to try to improve his condition has left him almost paralyzed.
Mike is currently in a rehabilitation facility learning how to move & use his legs again. While he grows stronger and continues to make progress each day, it is unclear if/when he'll be able to walk again. Because of his need for the use of a wheelchair for an indefinite amount of time, there will need to be extensive changes made to his house to fully accommodate his needs prior to his homecoming. Although we do not yet know exactly when Mike will be coming home, these changes will need to begin ASAP to allow ample time for completion.
For those of you who do not know Mike, he can easily be summed up by one phrase (borrowed from our local Rotary Club, of which Mike has been a long-term member): "service above self". Throughout his entire adult life, he has shown incredible loyalty, devotion, and support toward his family, friends, and community. He never misses an opportunity to help someone in any way he can. Now, it is time to give back to Mike because in this moment he needs to focus on "self above service". Let's help make his much-anticipated homecoming and adjustment to his new life challenges as comfortable as we can. He can't wait to get home to see his friends and family, especially his two grandchildren!
The words "thank you" do not seem nearly enough to express the gratitude and appreciation that we already feel for all of the kind words, well wishes, thoughts, and prayers that Mike has received in the last couple of weeks since his most recent surgery. The gratitude will most definitely carry over to everyone who is able to help us out with this endeavor. Your consideration and generosity will always be remembered by Mike and his family. Thank you so very much!
