I took my 2 girls to a Florida timeshare for Thanksgiving that we have visited for the past 18 years. I met a hardworking guy that works at the beach outside of our unit. After watching him work for a few days we started to get to know each other. I asked where he lived since he only had the beach job for 3 weeks and he put his head down. He reluctantly shared that he was down on his luck and sleeping behind the sand dunes for the time being. He was able to pay rent from April to September, then the 2nd job that he was working promised $3.10 /hr plus tips. Only to find out that job had him clean bathrooms and sweep the floor and no tips were given to him since he had no interaction with the guests. He couldn't afford the weekly hotel that he was living in and was forced to leave. I went to the hotel and paid for 1 week for him on Thanksgiving Day. The forecast called for afternoon rain and I didn't want him outside after a long day of work on the beach. He cried when I gave him the room key. I made Thanksgiving dinner from our unit and brought it over to him so he would have a home cooked meal. He shared with me that his faith in God and his 3 month old kitten, Smokey, has been getting him through his tough times! He looked for Smokey when I was at his hotel room, but he couldn't find her. I found out later that Smokey was just hit by a car and he went to the beach to bury her. He stated that his Thanksgiving Day was the best ever, but his Thanksgiving night was the worst! I'm trying to raise enough money for 1st month's rent, last month's rent and a security deposit to get him out of the hotel and into an apartment, which is cheaper than the slum Lord hotel that has been taking the little money that he has! Mikee Davis might be one of the most positive guys that I have ever met and doesn't consider himself homeless, "Just a little down on his luck right now." A few months of rent in his own apartment could be the break that he needs to get back on his feet. Thank you for reading this story and any help will be more than appreciated! My sister just paid for his 2nd week in the hotel yesterday, so I am trying to raise enough money before that week runs out to get him moved into his own apartment.
