Fundraiser for Mike Maskovich
Donation protected
Our dad, Mike Maskovich, a retired police officer with 37 1/2 years in law enforcement in Pierre and Ft. Pierre, has been hospitalized since September 19, 2016. He was first diagnosed with acute cholecystitis (gall bladder attack), acute pancreatitis, atrial fibrillation, and sepsis.
The surgeons in Pierre attempted to remove his gall bladder on September 21st, however, they were not successful because he did not tolerate the surgery very well and had to be intubated. The surgeons felt that the safest thing to do at that point was to transfer him to Sioux Falls because he had multiple complications. He was care flighted to Avera McKennan hospital in Sioux Falls the very next morning.
Upon arriving in Sioux Falls, he was admitted to the ICU in critical condition where he remained unconscious, sedated and on the ventilator for the next 9 days. He was eventually extubated on September 30th. After extubation, it took a few days for him to stabilize enough to be able to be moved out of ICU and into a step down unit.
On October 5th, he was moved to the Acute CardioPulmonary unit at McKennan where he remains today. We recently found out that he now also has two partially collapsed lungs, his heart has fluid around it and his kidney functions are not good. His condition changes daily. Some days are good days and some days are bad days.
We were told very early on that he WILL NOT discharge home. He will need to go to a rehabilitation facility before he is ever able to go home. He has a VERY long road ahead of him and all we can do is take it day by day.
We (Brad, Stephanie & Jerid) have decided that we wanted to try to do what we could to raise some funds to help defray medical costs. We figure that every dollar that we can raise for our parents will help ease the burden of what is sure to be an astronomical medical bill.
If you are are able to donate to dad's medical expenses, please know that we greatly appreciate anything that you are able to donate.
Regardless if you are able to donate financially or not, would you please keep our dad in your thoughts and prayers? He is still a very, very sick man and can definitely still use all of the prayers that he can get.
Thank you all so very, very much!!
