**Hello everyone! Because we reached our goal so fast and because so many people have reached out to let us know they want us to keep going with this page we have decided to increase our goal! There has been such a positive response to this project from family and friends every where! ❤️ Thank you so much for all of your support and all of your donations! By raising our goal we will be able to broaden Miggy’s impact! All of your donations are going to go to making these gowns and spreading Miggy’s legacy **

Stephen “Miggy” Chavez passed away on Tuesday, November 14th, 2017 after a four-month battle with Cancer. In his memory, Stephen’s family has created this gofundme page to fulfill one of his last wishes.

Stephen’s immunotherapy treatment required that a port be surgically implanted into his right side of his chest. Stephen often complained that he was uncomfortable in his hospital gown, which had to be buttoned up and down each time the nurses needed to access his port. One day, Stephen relayed his frustration to a nurse. “These gowns are not designed for people with a port,” he said.

Then Stephen had an idea. He decided that he was going to design hospital gowns for children with cancer that would make it easier to access their ports for treatment. It would have a flap that could be opened and closed without removing the whole gown. The gowns would have superhero themes and be unisex for boys and girls alike. Stephen constantly reminded his family about this idea, and we assured him that when he recovered that would be their next project.

Stephen’s idea inspired his grandmother and aunt. They found a Spiderman t-shirt and sent it to be made into a poncho. It became his new hospital gown.

My name is Leanne Rodriguez. I am Stephen’s (Miggy’s) cousin, and my family has asked me to keep track of this campaign. We are located in Miami, Florida and the money we are raising will go to purchasing fabric and employing people to put together the gowns. The gowns will then be donated to cancer patients in our local hospitals. We intend to withdraw the money into a newly opened bank account and the money will solely be used to fund the making of the hospital gowns.

In honor of Stephen’s wish to turn his idea into a benefit for others, we are starting this gofundme page to launch a new project to mass-produce these unique gowns. The ponchos will become Miggy’s Gift and be given to people of all ages as they undergo cancer treatment. Please consider supporting Miggy’s Gift to help us reach our initial goal of $5,000.

Since our last update many things have moved forward with Stephens wish to produce comfortable hospital gowns for children! Along with this new hospital gown, we will be giving a story book and stuffed animal. We have selected a manufacturer who is currently working on cutting and sewing Miggy’s design. The story book about Mighty Miggy has been written and is in the final editing stages. We also have an illustrator who has sent us designs for the book drawings. We have ordered the Dotson (wiener dog) stuffed animals, aka Mighty Myer (Stephens dog was named Myer). A local seamstress is sewing little capes for Mighty Myer. Stephen’s parents have met with the Miami Cancer Institute. The MCI is where Miggy received his treatment and the pediatric cancer unit of the MCI will be the first to receive Miggy’s Gift! They met with the Community Program Director and she has expressed her excitement to help with this project. When the gowns, book, and stuffed animals have been finished we will have an event for the children staying at the MCI. Once we have donated to the Miami Cancer Institute we hope to move forward with other local pediatric hospitals. We have also started working on FLan 2018 (an event Stephen held a couple years in a row) & on the celebration of his life. These events will be held on April 20th and April 21st, 2018. If you are interested in participating in the TF2 tournament that will be held on April 21st please send an email to Miggysgift@gmail.com so that we can keep you informed about the sign up process!
