Midwest Emoposting Helps a Friend in Need

Daniel Johnson, our fearless leader on the ceaseless quest to satiate our desires for all things Midwest Emo has fallen on hard times. Midwest Emoposting means a lot to us all, and we owe it to him for creating,  fostering and inspiring such a beloved community. Please consider donating whatever you feel you have the means to do so. -Zach A much more comprehensive, better written statement from group member Ali Allocco; You might know Daniel Johnson from the popular Facebook groups he has created - Midwest Emoposting (https://www.facebook.com/groups/midwestemoposting) and i'm gonna sublimate away & listen to pinegrove (https://www.facebook.com/groups/257544664760351/) These groups have fostered online communities of like-minded individuals who have a love for music, all thanks to Daniel creating them. The groups that Daniel created have brought together the music scene for the better. Many of us have made lasting friendships, met up at our favorite artist's tours, and most importantly, we have been able to express our interests in a safe and welcoming environment.Yesterday, Daniel shared with our online community that he has lost his job at a company he has been with for 8 years unexpectedly. Daniel has a wife and three children, and is now faced with a lot of financial uncertainty due to the loss of his job. Unfortunately, the only laptop Daniel had access to belonged to his company. This means he will no longer have access to a computer, which ultimately means he will be absent from these groups that he has built from the ground up. Midwest Emoposting has over 8,000 members, and it takes a lot to moderate a fair, safe group of that size. Daniel shared this in his post: "Never in my right mind did I imagine that this group would grow beyond a few hundred people. I originally envisioned it as a place for all the emo moms and (there weren't very many) dads of today who grew up with the specific brand of emo that came out in the late 90's/early 00's to nostalgify the music of our youth and maybe complain about our kids, or "kids these days." It very quickly became...not that. And, for that, I am eternally grateful.I am especially grateful that we've been able to maintain the communal feel of this group. I know some people feel we are heavy-handed, but we are striving to make this a place on the internet where people don't say things to each other that wouldn't say to them anywhere except for on the internet."Daniel wants Midwest Emoposting to grow and become an even bigger community of alternative music fans and musicians. I think coming together to support Daniel in these trying times is a good way to thank him for the communities he has fostered. I want to raise enough money for Daniel to be able to afford a Macbook Pro so that he can continue to be present in these communities and grow them. A laptop isn't number one on his list of priorities financially, but I think it's important that he has access to a computer.
